Janet M. Cruys

Cruys, Janet (Flakne) age 77, received into the arms of Jesus on May 27, 2013. Preceded in death by parents, Walter and Vina Feldt. and sisters, Dorothy (Bill) and Muriel (Dick). Survived by husband, Pastor George Cruys; sons, Brian Flakne (Victoria Rico), Ross Flakne, Keith Flakne (Diane), and Mark Flakne; step sons, Stephen Cruys (Connie) and Paul Cruys (Julie); grandchildren, Kathryn, Cameron, Tyler, Stephanie, Veronica, and Adam and step-grandchildren, Erin, Sarah, Nicole, and Samantha. A lifelong resident of Minnesota, Janet graduated from South High, Minneapolis in 1953. She later married Gary Flakne and they raised their four sons in south Minneapolis, where she was active in the Hale School PTA, Law Wives, various legislative campaigns, Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, Shattuck School and the many activities of her four boys and their many friends who considered Janet their second "Mom". Janet was also a legal secretary for over 20 years most notably with Fredrickson and Byron. Janet married George Cruys in 1991 after the two former high school prom dates reacquainted at a South High reunion finding themselves both single again. Janet and George became active at Valley of Peace in Golden Valley. They lived together in New Brighton where they enjoyed an active life filled with family, friends, and travel. Janet will be remembered for her blue eyes, quick smile, gentle ways, good cheer, and heart for Christ. Her many friends and loving family will also recall her wonderful cooking (especially cookies) and love of her Swedish heritage. A celebration of Janet's life will take place on Thursday, May 30, at Valley of Peace Lutheran Church, 4735 Bassett Creek Drive, Golden Valley, with visitation starting at 10 am and services in the sanctuary at 11 am. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Our Lady of Peace for their hospice ministry in St. Paul, Minnesota.
