James ("Jim") Russell Schmid James "Jim" Schmid passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in the afternoon of July 25, 2023. His loving wife, Mary (Doyle) Schmid, was at his side. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Ruth (Timmers) Schmid, and Joyce (Halverson), mother of his children. In addition to his wife, and his sister, Marion Bickford, Jim is survived by his four beloved children, Steven, Jennifer and Mark of Minneapolis, and Tim (Emily) Schmid of Apopka, Florida. He is also survived by four granddaughters and one grandson as well as three step-children and four step-grandchildren. Born March 11, 1930 in Minneapolis, Jim graduated from Deephaven High School in 1948. He then attended the University of Minnesota for two years before enlisting in the service of his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class with the United States Air Force after serving four years. Following discharge from the Air Force, Jim completed his education with a degree in accounting from the Minnesota School of Business. He soon joined the Charles H. Preston Company, a Public Accounting Firm, rising to president of the firm before retiring in 1989. Jim held lifetime memberships in the Minnesota Association of Public Accountants, and the American Legion. An avid golfer, and lake cabin frequenter, he was also a skilled bridge and cribbage player, and passed many happy hours in both pursuits. Jim and Mary enjoyed adventuresome travel during the course of their thirty-year marriage, making friends easily and frequently wherever they went, at home and abroad. A memorial service for Jim will be held on August 25 at the Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel, 7625 Mitchell, Road in Eden Prairie. Visitation is at 2:00 pm with the service beginning at 3:00 pm. Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to a social gathering in Jim's honor at American Legion Post 580, 290 Lake Drive East, Chanhassen. Guests are encouraged to dress casually and colorfully for the day, as this is intended to be a celebration of Jim's life.
