James F. (Bud) Rotsch

Rotsch, James F. (Bud) passed away July 11, 2015, after 96 extraordinary years. Bud was born to Herb & Emily Rotsch on Jan. 22, 1919, 9 minutes after his twin brother, Herb (Son). He was a lifelong resident of SW Mpls. Preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Harriet, of 69 years, his brother, Herb, and Adele & Chuck Heeter. Survived by his children who loved him dearly: son James (Susanne) of Sun Lakes, AZ; son Richard of San Diego, CA; son Jeffrey (Chris) of Naples, FL; daughter Debra Smith of Bloomington; and daughter Susan (Darrell) Jesseman of Burnsville; grand-children: Michael (Joanne); Krysta (David); Molly; Andrew (Gillian); Danielle; Derek; Kevin; Kelli; great-grandchildren: Ava, Owen & Elle; nieces & nephews: Karen (Bill) Healy; Nancy Rotsch; Joanne Heeter; Charles (Maricel) Heeter; Bill (Kristi Correa) Heeter, plus many cousins & dear friends. Bud graduated from Washburn HS where he participated in basketball & track. He attended the MN School of Business & his career included jobs with Lakeland Fruit & Produce, Mid-Continental Airline, Shell Oil Company, followed by a long career at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in advertising/sales promotion. His career was interrupted in 1940, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Bud served from 1940-1945 in the Pacific theatre & served on the USS Paul G. Baker as Chief Yeoman. Bud was a born naturalist who loved the outdoors, enjoying sun, rain, snow, birds & all animals. He was an avid hunter, fisherman & gardener. He loved to sail & downhill ski. Bud enjoyed building & spending as much time as possible at his cabin on Borden Lake. One of his biggest joys was attending his family's sporting events. If someone was playing, Bud was cheering. Bud was a creative & talented artist; he enjoyed fine art & produced many beautiful color pencil drawings for family & friends. He was always available to help his children at any time. He enjoyed a Manhattan with good friends. With Bud & Harriet's love of cards & dancing, we now hope the two of them will be together playing bridge & dancing the night away. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 9201 Normandale Blvd. in Bloomington, with a luncheon to follow; visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Edina Kiwanis, Augustana Regent, N.C. Little Hospice & the VA Medical Center.
