Iyabo Saidatu Oluyitan

With gratitude to God, we humbly announce the unexpected passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Mrs. Iyabo Saidatu Oluyitan (nee Hassan) - Iya Ase of Dayton, Ohio; Iya Alafia of Opopo Alafia, Efon Alaaye (Ekiti, Nigeria). Iya passed peacefully on October 25, 2023, in Minneapolis, MN, at the age of 72, after a brief battle with brain cancer. Preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Tiyamiyu Hassan and Hajiya Sidiqat Hassan (nee Arinola), and brothers Alhaji Musbau (Risikat) Hassan and Mr. Surajudeen (Mrs. Afusat and Adenike) Hassan. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Emmanuel Funso Oluyitan; five children, Dapo (Angelique) Oluyitan, Olumide (Rebecca) Edegbai, Bunmi (Michael) Simpeh, Lola (Eloho) Okeze, and Tunde Oluyitan; 13 grandchildren Fatuma, Kahaya, Ifedapo, Michael, Kofi, Olushola, Olufemi, Oluseyi, Ayo, Daniel, Adeoluwa, Ibukunoluwa, and Ogooluwa; siblings Col. Mutiu (Alhaja Sikirat) Oshunkoya, Alhaji Abdullatif (Alhaja Rahmatullahi) Hassan, Mr. Jimoh (Mrs. Olabisi, Karimot, and Muyiba) Hassan, Alhaja Sikiratullah Raji (nee Hassan), and WO Ganiyu (MWO Fatima) Hassan; including countless adopted children, in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Iya Ase was born in Zaria, Kaduna, Nigeria. She completed her B.A. at Lincoln University, PA. After raising her children, she opened an African grocery store in Dayton, Ohio, Ase African Center. She was involved with many groups and organizations and served as the Nigerian Women's Cultural Association's (NWCO) president. To know her is to love her. Iya Ase was loved and reciprocated love. She never met a stranger twice. We are comforted by her smile, zeal for life, and kind spirit. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her memory always be a blessing. (Amen) Iya Ase lived an extraordinary life filled with compassion, adventure, travel, laughter, and love. She was passionate about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and shared His love with others. We take solace in knowing she is seated in glory at the right hand of God.
