Irene Dorothy Lasher

Lasher, Irene Dorothy "Grandma Dort" age 96 of St. Louis Park, MN entered the joy of Heaven on October 25, 2023. Dort was preceded in death by her parents Irene and Wes Grunert, husband John, and sister Shirley Gaarder. She was born on March 31, 1927 in Young America, MN and grew up in Montevideo, MN. After graduating from Montevideo High School in 1944, Dort earned a teaching degree in elementary education from St. Cloud State University. She married her high school sweetheart, John Lasher, on June 7, 1949. The newlyweds moved to Dupree, SD where they both taught. After the arrival of their two daughters, Dort dedicated her time to raising her girls and volunteering in the many communities to which John's banking career brought them. Whether she was chairing a fundraising drive to build a YWCA, teaching Sunday school or playing a round of golf for dimes, she developed deep friendships everywhere, with people of all ages. In retirement, John and Dorothy enjoyed summers on Green Lake and winters in Corpus Christi, TX. She was a diehard sports fan cheering on high school students to professional athletes, with the Lynx topping her list. She consistently kept in contact with her many friends throughout the country, even friending people on Facebook into her 90's. She was truly beloved, called "Grandma Dort" by all that were fortunate to know her, elected prom queen in her snowbird Island House community, and melted hearts of cabin visitors with endless ice cream treats from her "deep freeze". Her greatest joy was her family, and she was their adored matriarch -- deeply faithful, generous, fun, hardworking, abundantly loving and tough as nails to the very end. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Jo Ellen Saylor (H.L.); Nancy Nissen (Rick); grandchildren: Meredith (Chris), Kathryn (Cam), Jayme, Elizabeth (Mike), and Emily (Dillon); and her seven great grandchildren. A Memorial Service celebrating Dort's well-lived life will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 at 2 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Avenue South, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Open Circle Adult Day Center, 34 10th Ave. South, Hopkins, MN 55343, Cathedral of the Pines Camp, Mt.
