Hung Yung Ma

Ma Hung Yung Age 96 of St. Paul Born on August 20, 1928, in Toishan, China, peacefully departed this world surrounded by her loving family in St. Paul, MN on January 17, 2024, at the age of 96 (or 99 by lunar calendar count). Hung Yung, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was a pillar of strength and resilience. She carried the weight of losing her husband, Kam Chun Ng, and her eldest son, Leo Kwok-Yiu Ng, with grace and love. Hung Yung is survived by her three loving children, Emma, Kwok Yu, Kwok Qu; seven adoring grandchildren, Sherry, Larry, Mee, Mary, Fremont, Brandon, Tiffany; and her six cherished great-grandchildren. Hung Yung's journey took her from the heart of China to Minnesota, where she reunited with her eldest son. Hung discovered joy and purpose working alongside her sons at Leo's Chow Mein. Despite the language barrier, her love transcended words; you didn't need to understand Chinese to understand Grandma. One of her endearing and humorous quirks was her habit of vacuuming underneath patrons' feet if they lingered after closing time. Hung Yung was known for her meticulous record-keeping, diligently noting down everything from family birthdays to phone numbers. She also imparted her knowledge to her grandchildren, including teaching them how to write their names in Chinese, a treasured skill that remains a warm memory. She was also witty and playful, with a clever knack for gently coaxing secrets from her grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Hung Yung had a talent for making new friends wherever she went, warmly welcoming them into her life. She was open to new experiences and people. Above all, she found solace and happiness at her community center, where she engaged in activities that brought her immense joy. Hung Yung's kind-hearted soul touched the lives of many with her genuine warmth and boundless generosity. Her legacy of compassion and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
