In Loving Memory of Hugh Martin Lampert (1924-2025) Hugh Martin Lampert, age 101, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at Johanna Shores in Arden Hills, Minnesota. Hugh was born on January 17, 1924, in Thief River Falls, MN. He grew up in St. Paul and lived a life marked by devotion - to his country, his family, his faith, and his passions. Preceded in death by parents, Leonard and Esther Owen Lampert, brothers Blair (Edy) and Len II (Jane). Hugh is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Janet, whose partnership was the foundation of a beautiful life together. He also leaves behind three devoted children: Wendy Lampert-Brown (Dermoth), Nancy Benson (Jeff), and David (Jamie); nine cherished grandchildren: Princeton, Symone, Triston and Tossia Brown, Erik and Katie Benson, Mandy Frost, Sarah Adams (Dave), and Lindsay Logan (Calvin); and seven great-grandchildren: Piper, Naomi, Liam, Tanner, Cora, Aubry, and Rhett. His legacy lives on in the laughter of his great-grandchildren, the stories passed down through generations, and the enduring love of a family shaped by his wisdom and warmth. A proud veteran, Hugh served honorably in the United States military during World War II. He was drafted right after graduating from St. Paul's Central High School, entering as a private. Promoted to Buck Sargent, he served in the 3rd army under general George Patton, where he experienced the battle of the bulge and the liberation of Dachau. His military experiences undoubtedly helped shape the values, courage and commitment that would define the rest of his life. After his service, he dedicated many years to the University of Minnesota, where he was known not only for his professional excellence but also for his warmth, humor, and leadership. Hugh was a man of many interests, but few brought him more joy than his family, time at the cabin, and building and flying radio-controlled model airplanes. His fascination with flight was matched only by his deep love for family and his ever-present sense of humor. Whether tinkering in his workshop or sharing stories over coffee, Hugh's kindness and gentle wit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Faith was a cornerstone of Hugh's life. He was married at Hamline United Methodist Church, a sacred place where each of his children were baptized, confirmed and later married. After retiring, he and Janet relocated from their home in Roseville to the family cabin in Big Lake, Minnesota-a beloved gathering place for family and friends. There, they became active members of Monticello United Methodist Church. His spiritual commitment was woven into the fabric of his daily life, guiding his actions and relationships with grace, humility and moral integrity. A celebration of Hugh's life will be held on September 29, 2025, in the Fellowship Hall at Johanna Shores, 3220 Lake Johanna Blvd, Arden Hills, Minnesota. A reviewal will take place from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a service with Honor Guard at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served afterward, with a graveside service to follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in St. Paul. The family welcomes memorial donations to Johanna Shores, Hamline United Methodist Church, or any organization of personal significance. May his spirit soar as freely as the model planes he so lovingly crafted.
