Hugh Ellis Gilmore

REV. HUGH GILMORE, 92 years old, joined the Lord in heaven on Sunday August 4th, 2024. Resident of Waconia MN, originally from Granite Falls MN. He was born on May 8, 1932, the son of Harry and Stella Gilmore. He is survived by his wife Kay, of 64 years. Children Michael (Kelly), David (Michelle), Kimberly Sop (Peter) Grandchildren Seth Gilmore (Kerry), Bridget Gilmore (DJ), Kayla Lopez (Marco), Matthew Blachowiak (Heather), Logan Gilmore, Ellie Gilmore, Madison Gilmore, and Kate Gilmore. Great grandchildren Evelyn Gilmore, Nolan Gilmore, and Joseph Gilmore. Step grandchildren Paige Muehlberg, Jacob Sop, Spencer Sop, and Jacob Hille. Next to his Lord, his Family was the most important thing to him. Throughout his high school days, he worked in his father's service station. He is a graduate of Granite Falls High School where he played trumpet in the band and sang in the school choir. He enjoyed baseball and was on the Granite Falls high school, Legion, and town ball teams. He graduated from the Minnesota School of Business, with a degree in accounting. He worked at a CPA firm and then joined a manufacturing company. He was active at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church and after a year of vocational struggle, felt the Call to enter the ordained ministry. He graduated from Augsburg College and Augustana Theological Seminary. He and Kay were married on August 15, 1959. They traveled to Seattle, Washington, where he served his internship. He was ordained in the Lutheran Church in 1962. He served parishes in Minnesota at Saron in Big Lake, Hope in Mpls., Mt. Calvary in Excelsior and Mt. Olivet in Mpls. He and Kay were foster parents for over 100 babies through LSS. Hugh enjoyed spending time with his family at Big Lake and Lake Minnetonka. Kay and Hugh traveled extensively on cruises and winter trips to Mexico. Time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren brought him much joy. He was active and Past President of Rotary, Paul Harris recipient, PTA president in Mpls., Served as President of the Minneapolis Ministerial Association, Board member of Common Bond Communities, President of South Shore Housing, Chaplain for Minneapolis Aquatennial, recipient of the WCCO Good Neighbor award, member of Minnetonka High School Drug Task Force, and member of the Lafayette Club. He was an active golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He loved people and always had a positive and optimistic attitude towards life. A memorial/celebration service will be held on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church West, 7150 Rolling Acres Road, Victoria, MN.
