Herbert William Hess

Herbert W. Hess, affectionately known as Herbie, passed away Friday August 9th 2024 at The Wealshire in Bloomington. We are grateful the staff took such good care of him during his 5 years there. He was loved by all. We would also like to thank Park Nicollet Hospice for their devoted comfort and care towards him. Herb was born in Duluth, MN to Lucille and Herbert W Hess Sr. He graduated from East High School in Duluth, MN. He then graduated from U of M studying Political Science & Business Economics. He served in the Army Reserves from May 30th 1959 and was Honorably discharged in 1964. Herb married Kathleen Trana and had 3 children, Kristen, Dustin, and Pamela. He became a single father raising his 3 children. In 1968 his family grew to 6 with his marriage to Jeanne (Warwick) Kane, her children Miles (Mickey), Kimberly and Kelly. Years later Herb and Jeanne fostered 2 teens for a full family of 10. Herb had many passions and interests. In 1972, Herb was a DFL candidate for State Senate. He continued his passion for politics throughout the years. Herb also had a great love for golf and enjoyed playing at many different golf courses. He spent many years at Dwan Golf course with his golf buddies. Another of his great passions was for cars. He spent his late teenage years driving race cars until a racing accident turned his passion from racing to buying and selling cars. Later in his life, he worked in management for a janitorial service company until he retired. Herbie also had a great love for dogs. Many years ago, Herb and Jeanne started their own kennel (Sunncrest Kennels). They raised, bred and showed Brittney Spaniels, miniature Schnauzers, Whippets, and their most passionate breed, Maltese. Shadow (Shih Tzu) was his constant side kick and the pair were inseparable. Proceeded in death by (mother)Lucille (Gustafson) Burry, (father) Herbert W Hess Sr., (wife) Jeanne Hess. Survived by children: Miles (Mickey) Kane, Kimberly Spence, Kelly Lysne (Jeff), Kristen Ybarra, Dustin Hess (Lanette), Pamela Reaume (Brett) 17 grand children 13 great grand children 1 great great grand child Friends and acquaintances Memorials preferred.
