Herbert Marlyn Harms

Herbert Marlyn Harms died Friday, May 20 at his home in Plymouth, MN after a long struggle with heart disease. He was born June 7, 1936 to Henry P. and Margaret Harms of Titonka, IA. He was baptized and confirmed in the Good Hope Lutheran Church, where he later served on the church council. He graduated from Titonka High School and later married Roslyn Heesch November 12, 1961. They farmed Northwest of Titonka. Herb also drove truck from Countryman Trucking, Lakota Ready Mix, and delivered Winnebago motorhomes throughout the US. They moved to Minneapolis in May 1985, where Herb began working on the greens and grounds at Golden Valley Country Club. He later drove school bus for the Wayzata School District for many years before retirement. Herb was a strong, Christian, family man who loved his children and his wife dearly. He farmed his land in Iowa for many years, overcame multiple heart attacks early in his life, and lived to see his children become amazing adults. He enjoyed his grandchildren immensely. His greatest wish in life, fulfilled time and again, was to see his family come together for weddings, holidays, or other occasions. Herb had a strong will to live but assured his family that when his time on earth was up, he was ready! Herb enjoyed Calvary Lutheran Church services and the many visits from Calvary staff while in the hospital. When his health permitted, he enjoyed Saturday morning monthly prayer breakfast. Herb is survived by his wife, Roslyn; three children, Kendra (Rod) Knudtson of Marseilles, IL; Tammy (Lisa Williams) of Savannah, GA; Jeff (Jessica Smith) of Bloomington, MN; six grandchildren, Lindsay Miller, Ashly Tracey, Brian Tracey, Nickolas Knudtson, Zachary Harms, and Gabrielle Smith; father-in-law Virgil Heesch of Willmar, MN; sister-in-law Sheryl (Phillip) Mulder of Prinsburg, MN; brother-in-law Paul (Marlene) Heesch of St. Cloud, MN; two nieces Janelle Heesch of Sartell, MN; Shala (Jonathan) Mellema of Spicer, MN; one nephew Mike Sheldahl (Tami) of Hugo, MN; two great nieces and two great nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and mother-in-law.
