Abby Rye

Rye, Hazel A. "Abby" (Liepke) age 95, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2023. Abby was preceded in death by husband, Glenn M. Rye. Abby is survived by her three daughters, Karen Rye, Susan Rye (Rafi Dworsky), and Deborah Rye (Joe Kordosky); grandchildren, Megan Rye (James Tucker), Ryan Nosek (Reilly), Abby Kordosky (Lucas Marquardt), Tyler Kordosky (Kristie), Glenn Dworsky (Audrey), Chris Cook, Heather Linkin, and great grandchildren, Lukas, Jude, Alex, Ellie, Odin, Mjölnir, and Wells. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Harland Nelson and sister-in-law, Ella Magstadt, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Abby was preceded in death by brothers, Merle Liepke, Malcolm Liepke, and sisters, Pat Hughes, and June Liepke. She was the daughter of Florence (Casserly) and Herman Liepke, and grew up in Northeast Minneapolis, graduating from Edison High School. Abby worked in the accounting department for a Minneapolis company before marrying and devoting herself to full time motherhood, including fostering two boys. When her children were in their teens, she was employed in the physical therapy department at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Wayzata. She later became their Activities Director for several years. Abby loved the arts and travel. She was a charter member of the City of Lakes Chapter of Sweet Adelines. With the chorus and her quartet, she traveled throughout the Midwest to participate in singing competitions and performed in numerous major musical shows in the greater Minneapolis/St Paul area. For years, Abby enrolled in painting and sculpture classes at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts. She particularly enjoyed working with metal and clay. Abby was an adventurous person, taking up golf and downhill skiing in adulthood; and in her 60's and 70's, returned to her childhood love of long blade ice skating. She found great joy in traveling the world with her husband, making friends in England, Scotland, Israel, Japan, Hong Kong, Italy, Portugal, Jamaica, and Mexico. Most of all she loved her family. She supported her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in their pursuits. Abby was the heart of all family gatherings. We will miss her beyond measure. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Habitat for Humanity, or donor's charity of choice.
