Harry died peacefullyAugust 3, 2012 at age 92 and is with his Lord. Preceded in death by parents Walter & Winifred Mixer; daughter Sandra Ferguson; and sister Mary Ann Muska. Survived by Delores, his loving wife of 68 years; children Bruce (Lila) Mixer, Todd Mixer, Rachel Mixer (Zecharias Tefera), Scott Mixer; son-in-law, Glenn; grandchildren Kimberly (Philip) Wheatley, Mark (Sarah) Ferguson, Amy (Kevin) Sliman, Joseph (Monica) Mixer, Dean Mixer, Daniel Tefera; great-grandchildren Brandon, Rose, Anthony, Kate, Nathan, Naomi and Caroline; nieces, nephews, cousin. Harry was born December 25, 1919, and raised in St. Paul, MN. Harry and Delores lived in Golden Valley, MN, wintered at Sun Lakes, AZ, and recently resided at Waverly Gardens, North Oaks, MN. Harry graduated from Minnehaha Academy and then graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1943. He received his MS in Radiology at the U of M in 1947. During his academic years he was received into the honorary societies of Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha, Sigma Xi. Harry was Clinical Associate Professor (Emeritus) at the U of M. He was made a fellow of the American College of Radiology in 1970. He was involved in cancer/leukemia research in 1945-1949. During the Korean War he served 2 years as Captain in the Army at Fort Hood, Texas. Harry was a pioneer in the field of Radiology. He initiated the Dept. of Nuclear Medicine at Fairview Hospital, Mpls, MN. He was a founder of the Suburban Radiologic Consultants, now known as Suburban Imaging. He was also Chief of Staff at Glenwood Hills Hospital, Golden Valley. He was on the staff of Fairview Hospitals, Mercy Hospital and Unity Hospital. Since retirement Harry and his wife have participated in 4 archaeological "digs" in Israel. They also participated in 3 short-term mission trips to Ecuador. They traveled to all seven continents. Harry was also known for his photographic/multi media presentations. He lived a full life with interests in religion, history, philosophy, planetary science, and art. His greatest strength was his Christian Faith and his Family. Special thanks to the WaverlyGardens Gables staff, Rev. BruceNelson and Rev. Gary Mueller.
