Guy Kendall Madsen

Guy Kendall Madsen, 76, of Brooklyn Center, MN, passed away peacefully with his wife of more than 40 years, Bonnie, at his bedside on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. Guy was born on May 4, 1949, to Patricia (Montour) and Paul Madsen in Minneapolis, MN where much of his childhood was spent along with his brothers, Bruce and Mark (Mick), and sister Pamela. Following Paul's work, the Madsen family relocated to Enderlin, ND for Guy's teen years. Guy lettered in high school wrestling, winning 2nd in state during his Senior year graduating with his class in 1967. He moved back to Minneapolis to begin work for the Soo Line Railroad, where he worked for more than 25 years before changing to a career as a machinist, until his retirement. Guy and Bonnie very much enjoyed time spent with their rescue bird companions and volunteering at their local Bible mission thrift store. Guy was always the family mechanic and he will be sorely missed for his expertise in all matters. It is well known that one of Guy's biggest passions was classic cars; restoring them, maintaining them, and showing them. His nearly life-long project was his '35 Ford. His grandpa, Ed, let him earn this car working at the marina in Pequot Lakes, MN while he was still in high school. Guy devoted years to restoring that car after it was damaged in a flood in North Dakota years prior. Showing that car was one of his proudest moments. Guy was also a proud member of the MN Street Rod Association and for decades participated in the annual Back to the 50's car show at the MN Fairgrounds. Another talent and passion of Guy's was his woodworking; creating intricate whirligigs, toys, birdhouses, displays, and much more. He had the vision and the ability to create anything with or without a pattern. The Climbing Bear will always live on in our hearts. His other great interests included restoring and collecting antique, wooden radios and collecting rare postage stamps. He was an avid guitarist and enjoyed regaling his family with a tune now and then. Guy's sharp wit and lighthearted, mischievous nature will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Guy is survived by wife Bonnie (Bernadette), daughter Darli, son Jazz (Clayton), daughter Lacy, and grandchildren Megan, Madaline, Ethan, and Elida. Bonus children, daughter Brenda (Michael), son Kevin, daughter Vicki (Alan), and grandchildren Alyssa (Julio), Greg Jr (Camille), Marquel (Amaree), Malea, Mya, Alec, and Jayce, and great grandchildren Max Avery, Cohen, and Lenora. Brother Bruce (Mary) and sister Pamela (Greg). A celebration of Guy's life will be held at the Brooklyn Park Community Center, 5600 85th Ave N, on Wednesday, January 14 from 3pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be distributed by the family to Guy's favorite charitable organizations.
