Grace LaVerne Erickson

Grace LaVerne Erickson, age 97, died peacefully on July 11, 2014. Throughout her life, Grace always found ways to help and care for others in any way she could. Preceded in death by her parents Walfred and Lowie Johnson, husband Arnold Carl Erickson (Arnie), siblings Gen Thompson, Lois King, Imogene Seashore and Chuck Johnson, and special friend Ken Webster of Sarasota, FL and Randolph, VT. Survived by her sons: Doug (Galene) of Minneapolis, Jack of St Paul and Kevin (Kim) of Anoka, seven grandchildren: Bret (Rachel) Erickson of Golden Valley, Kia (Jon) Blumenthal of Edina, Ingrid Erickson of Minneapolis, Elliott Erickson of St Paul, Lindsay (Toby Johnson) Erickson of Los Angeles, CA, Zach Erickson of Pasadena, CA and Andy Erickson of Los Angeles, CA, four very special great grandchildren: Lily and Peyton Erickson, and Avery and Olivia Blumenthal, loving nieces and nephews and her friends at North Ridge Care Center to whom Grace, after supper each night, would reach out to or tap on their shoulder, nod her head, and would say encouragingly, "I'll see you tomorrow!" Grace volunteered for many years reading textbooks for blind college students, reading books on the radio for the Minnesota Society for the Blind (now Mpls-based Vision Loss Resources) and served for 16 years at the Auxiliary of Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, FL. Grace and Arnie were very active members of St Timothy Lutheran Church in St Paul (charter members) and then later of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sarasota, FL. After moving to Anoka in 2009, Grace attended Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka. Grace moved to North Ridge Care Center in 2011 after a stroke and while there continued her faith journey with the pastoral ministry at North Ridge and regular visits by Zion's Visitation Group. We would like to extend special appreciation to Grace's niece Linda Seashore Larsen of Florida for her steady stream of handmade cards and numerous special delivery flower bouquets while Grace was in her final years at North Ridge Care Center, the family of Ken Webster, her very good friend Ila Jean Wright in Florida, the Visitation Group of Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka and North Ridge Care Center's kind and compassionate nurses, aides and staff. Services will be at St Timothy Lutheran Church (1465 Victoria St N, St Paul) Thurs July 24 at 10:30 AM. Visitation at Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home (536 Snelling Avenue N, St Paul) Wed 5:30 - 7:30 PM and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Please join us for lunch after the service.
