Gilmer Richard Gulbranson

Gilmer "Richie" Gulbranson, age 78 years, gained his wings on February 4, 2023 while he was surrounded by his beloved family. He was born to Helen Marie (George) Gulbranson and Gilmer Bennett Gulbranson on August 2nd, 1944 in Shevlin, MN. Gilmer was one of 14 siblings with himself being the 5th born child growing up in Leonard, MN. He attended "Happy Hollow" school where he went until the 8th grade. During this time, after school, he worked for various farmers running farm equipment, which instilled in him his love for all things tractor related. Gilmer met the love of his life, Bonnie, at a dance in Shevlin during his teen years. They dated for 3 years and were happily married in 1965. They welcomed their first child, Richard, in 1966 and shortly thereafter moved to the cities to raise their family. Together, they then welcomed 5 more children- Rochelle, Chad, Daniel, Erin, and Nathan. After moving to cities, Gilmer was employed by Standard Machine Shop where he remained an employee for the next 57 ½ years. Gilmer will always be known as one of the hardest workers. He was dependable, easy going, honest, and willing to lend anyone a helping hand. He will however be remembered for the great love he had for his family. He was a loving husband and father to his children and always showed them what it was to be a person of integrity. He enjoyed getting together with his siblings and family reunions. His true joy came from being a grandpa. Gilmer was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. During family gatherings you could find him quietly observing and taking great pride in the family he created and loved more than anything. He also had a great love for cooking with his specialty being BBQ ribs and his famous potato salad. He enjoyed baking as well as making donuts and cookies. He loved to cook for the holidays for his family and he always looked forward to setting the Christmas tree up with his grandchildren right after Thanksgiving. Gilmer could be found tinkering in his garage or on his lawn tractors. He had a passion for collecting tractors, cars, trains, and Pez candy. If any of these things were mentioned in conversation, he would smile with joy and excitedly talk about his collections. Oftentimes traveling to the tractor shows with his friend Kenny in search of items to add to his growing collections. During the holidays he would light up like a child on Christmas morning when he would receive another piece to add to his collection and always showing gratitude when gifted his favorite things. Gilmer greatly enjoyed making trips to the casino with his granddaughter Brittney and other times with his friend Terry. Once there, he was usually hard to find because he was off enjoying himself so much. In past summers Gilmer enjoyed being out on the lakes on a boat or jetski with his kids, and in later years he loved visiting his daughter Erin's pool and swimming with his grandkids. He had a passion for working on cars with his son Richard as well. You could always find him working on something with a motor. Preceded in death by his parents Helen and Gilmer Gulbranson, mother and father in law Emily and Arthur "Bud" Platt, siblings Laurie Hanson, Steve Gulbranson, his brother Wayne and a stillborn brother, and sister Irene Storm. Brothers in law Ronnie Platt, Jimmy Rouland, Iver Cassibo, Gerald Halvorson, Larry Williams, Jim Bailey, Charles Jorgenson, Marv Lang and Tom Storm. Sisters-in law Alice Gulbranson, and Brenda Gulbranson. Son in law Donald "Donnie" Eickstadt. He is survived by his wife of over 57 years Bonnie, children- Richard (Lisa) Gulbranson, Rochelle Cavness, Chad Gulbranson, Daniel Gulbranson, Erin (Will) Cochran, and Nathan (Harmony) Gulbranson. Grandchildren- Dustin Gulbranson, Travis (Heather) Gulbranson, Brittney (Anthony) Mastrian, Brandon (Amanda) Cavness, Nichole (Fiance Cody) Eickstadt, Rylee Eickstadt, Donovan Mullen, Evalina Gulbranson, Olivia Cochran, Elle Cochran, and Ethan Gulbranson. Great grandchildren- Destiny, Aden, Alex, Austin, Andrew, Nolan, and May. Siblings- Donna (Gordy) Solberg, Alice Cassibo, Sharon (Jim Watts) Lang, Karen Jorgenson, Gary Gulbranson, Sandra (Rich) Dombeck, Robert Gulbranson, Nancy (Byron) Edevold, Tammy (Mike) Cleveland, Sisters in law Linda Gulbranson, Patricia Bailey, Sharon Black, and brothers in law Jerry Hanson, Mike (Vicky) Platt, and Steve (Kari Kilen) Platt. Many, many beloved nieces and nephews as well as countless friends and extended family. Gilmer will be truly missed by many until we meet again in our Lord's beautiful Kingdom in the sky. We will find peace in knowing he is walking on streets of gold with the ones who have passed before us. Memorial service to be held at the Washburn-Mcreavy Glen Haven Chapel (5125 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55429) with visitation hapening 1 hour prior. Reception to be held after the service at the VFW in Crystal, MN (5222 Bass Lake Rd, Crystal, MN 55429).
