Geraldine Richards

Richards, Geraldine Parker Age 92 of Edina, died peacefully at home on February 13, 2008. Born and raised in Fairmont, MN. Gerri received a BA from Macalester College. She also attended the University of Minnesota and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. There she met her husband, "Jay" in Harmony Class. They lived in perfect harmony for almost 50 years. Although she made her primary home in Mpls, Gerri retained her ties to her hometown of Fairmont, where she was a longtime member of Interlaken Golf Club, the Martin County Historical Society, and the First Congregational UCC Church. Gerri taught school in Lake Crystal, MN and in a one room school house in Martin County, MN. In Minneapolis she taught English for 23 years at Nokomis Junior High. Her passion for her community was reflected in the variety of organizations she supported. She was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) where she met her life-long friends who formed "The Bridge Club". Gerri was a member of the Woman's Club of Mpls, P.E.O., Woman's Christian Association, Daughters of the American Revolution and other historic, arts and cultural organizations. She was a member of Chapel Hills United Church of Christ. Gerri loved to travel, particularly to Venice, Italy, and her life was enriched by being involved with the Minnesota Chapter of the Venice Community of the International Funds for Monuments. Gerri is survived by her 3 children, Jim Richards of Sherburn, MN, Anna "Missy" Richards of Sante Fe, NM, Tom Richards and his wife, Vicki of Shakopee, MN; and her 4 grandchildren, Daniel and John Richards, "Daisy" Ana and Eleanor Deardorff. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Richards; parents, Ralph and Anna Parker, Fairmont, MN; and sister, Marian Scherer, Tokepa, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Mpls Branch or the Martin County Historical Society. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorial Service 11 AM Tuesday, February 19, 2008 with visitation 1 hour prior to service all at: Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 West 50th St. & Hwy. 100
