Gerald "Jerry" Adrian Nelson

Gerald (Jerry) Nelson of Shoreview passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023. Jerry was born in Arlington, SD on April 7, 1936 to Harold and Elsie Nelson. He was preceded in death by both parents, stepfather, Ed Van Hecke, his wife Carol and son Gregory. He leaves behind his two children, Debby Prudhomme, Shawn (Beckie) Nelson, Grandchildren; Melissa (Chad), Jeremy (Megan), Amanda (Brock), April, Abby (DJ), Sam and Macie. Great Grandchildren Carly (Jacob), Dominik (Sarah), Hailey (Noah), Jaelyn, Jace, Cole, Caleb, Casey and Chloe. Brother Ronald Nelson and sister Ella Braun, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. Gerald graduated from Arlington, SD High School in 1954. He enlisted in the Army and served two years. On October 6, 1957 Gerald married Carol Stone in Minneapolis. They had a wonderful marriage until Carol's death on September 15, 2009. Jerry's working career was in the field of Dental Technology. First with Edco and later starting his own dental lab Excel with his business partner George Halverson. Jerry worked hard to provide a good life for his family, taking them on yearly vacations and who could ever forget their famous dinner parties? Together they made lifelong friends. After Carol passed, Jerry spent his remaining years making the world a brighter and better place. He volunteered tirelessly for the National Kidney Foundation, the University of Minnesota - transplant floor and the Second Chance for Life Organization. The U of M has record of him volunteering close to 5,000 hours. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grand and great-grandchildren and his many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, February 16 at the Mermaid Event Center, 2200 Mounds View Blvd, Mounds View MN 55112. Open house from 4-8 pm. There will be a program at 6 pm. Park near door 4 on the SW side of The Mermaid. Jerry was a giver. A giver of blood, a kidney, time, friendship, and laughter. He will be greatly missed. Because of who he was, we are left with so many memories and the support of friends we consider to be chosen family.
