Georgiana "Georgie" Joyes Stober Johnson

Georgiana (Georgie) Joyes Stober Johnson, age 89, died peacefully at home on March 12, 2026. Georgie was born at the hospital at the West Point Military Academy, NY on January 8, 1937. She grew up in Seattle. In 1952, as a sophomore in high school, Georgie moved with her family to Omaha, NE. She graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1955 and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1959, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She enjoyed her membership in Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and the life-long friendships especially the "Campers." It was at the University that she met her beloved future husband, Richard, a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. They were married on August 22, 1959, in Omaha. Georgie taught 5th Grade in the Omaha Public School District...until Elizabeth Anne (Liz) was born in October of 1962. In the spring of 1963, Rich was transferred to San Francisco, CA, through his employer, Carpenter Paper Company. They lived in South San Francisco and San Mateo, CA, where Carl Edward (Ted) was born in June of 1964. Then Rich was sent to Minneapolis, MN in December of 1970. Their home for the rest of her life was in New Brighton, MN, a suburb. They bought an old resort in Remer, MN, with their dear friends the Sagers, in 1976. She worked as a Para, then a Special Ed teacher in the Mounds View School District after getting a Master Degree in Special Education from the U of MN. She retired in 1998. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta at the U of NE, Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers Organization and Christ the King Lutheran Church. Georgie had many activities and hobbies...choir, Elders in Action at church, bridge, 2 book clubs, sewing, knitting, hardanger, and painting. She enjoyed being with the family and especially with her many friends. Georgie was preceded in death by husband, Richard Lee Johnson, June 18, 2023, parents Mason F (Jack) Stober and Georgiana (Jiggs) Stober; brother, Mason F, Jr. (Smokey) Stober and wife Dolores (Dee) Stober; brother, James J (Jim) Stober and niece, Mary Caye (MC) Stober. Survived by daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) Johnson and son, Carl (Ted) Johnson, sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Bette) Stober, nephew, Jeremy Stober (wife Robbyn), nephew Mason F III (Rick) Stober (wife Sandy, deceased), nephew Larry Gass (wife Lynda), Lorie Benzel (husband Steve), Tom Webb (wife Julie), James (Red) Webb and many grandnephews and grandnieces. Also cousins; Robert Stober (wife Ruth), Dan Stober (wife Diane), Dick Stober (wife Lonnie, deceased) and Martha Garms (husband Dean). The memorial service will be on April 23, 2026 at Christ the King Lutheran Church located at 1900 7th St NW, New Brighton, MN 55112. Visitation is at 10:00 am and the service is at 11:00 am (livestream: https://www.lifeatctk.org/memorial), with a luncheon following. Private interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery, CO will be held at a later date.
