George Harold Wagner

Wagner, George Harold Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great- Grandpa, friend & community volunteer, died at home on Sunday, January 18, 2015 surounded by family. He was 90 years old. George was born in Fairport, NY on September 11, 1924 to Harold & Margaret Wagner. After graduating from high school, he entered Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. His education was interrupted while he served 2 years in the Philippines for the US Navy. Upon completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering he worked on the East Coast until his job brought him to Minnesota in 1972. He was Marketing Manager at Bell Brothers Research until he retired in 1980. His passion for community service began upon his retirement, when he served 8 years on the St. Anthony Village Planning Commission. Then a further 8 years as a St. Anthony Village Council Member. He also served on the Parks Commission and was a 13 year member of the Community Service Advisory Board. The project most dear to his heart was the planning & building of the Veteran's Memorial at Central Park, which was dedicated on Veteran's Day 2011. George was a 43 year member of Faith Untied Methodist Church where he served as Trustee, Finance Chair and active as an usher. George loved Gopher football and served on the board of the Goal Line Club at the University of Minnesota. He also served as president and treasurer of the Village Commons Homeowners Association where he lived with his wife Audrey. George dearly loved his family, his friends and his community. He loved to play golf and enjoyed many trips and cruises with his family. He is survived by Audrey, his wife of 34 years; brother Robert of Fairport, NY; children Ruth (Doug) Reiner, Ron (Pat) Wagner, Doug Wagner, Jan (Wally) Sharp, Scott (Lisa) Clark, & Kim (Mike) Volna; grandchildren Jennifer (Troy) Fitzpatrick, Ryan & Claire Volna, Jesse & Braden Clark; great-grandchildren Kyan & Collin Fitzpatrick; many nieces & nephews. Memorials preferred to Faith United Methodist Church, or the Kiwanis Club of St. Anthony Foundation. Visitation is 2-5 PM Sunday, January 25th at Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel, 2610 10th Ave., NE. Funeral service will be at Faith United Methodist Church, 2708 33rd Av. NE, St. Anthony at 11 AM on Monday, Jan 26th, with visitation 1 hour prior.
