Geneva (nee Fontana) Maas

Maas, Geneva (nee Fontana) Age 99, of Hopkins, MN. Born October 7, 1915. Passed away May 7, 2015. Geneva was born in Minneapolis, raised in the township of St. Anthony and a graduate of Edison High School and St. Cloud Normal School, now St. Cloud State University. Geneva married Mathias (Matt) Maas in 1935 and he preceded her in passing in 1996. Her deceased parents were Joseph and Norina (Torelli) Fontana and siblings, Marie Brown, Samuel (Elizabeth) Fontana and Albert Fontana. She was preceded in death by two of her children, Mary Ann Wagner and Patricia C. Maas. Geneva was a person loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, neighbors and many friends. She was a very family centered person, caring for parents, siblings, children, nephews and nieces throughout her many years. Geneva loved to cook, bake, and get together with her neighbors, travel, and in her later years play bingo and sing. She was a voracious reader and in her lifetime enjoyed a correspondence with relatives and friends. She was an active member of St. Joseph's parish in Hopkins for over 65 years. Geneva enjoyed many activities in life at the Hopkins Senior Center. She was particularly pleased to be honored as a Senior Queen of the Hopkins Raspberry Festival. She continued her love of activities and reading during her time in the memory unit at the Glenn. She is survived by children John (Catherine) Maas, Philip Maas, Jeanine (Patrick) Lee, Colette Maas, Kevin (Debra) Maas, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff at the Memory Unit of The Glenn, Minnetonka, MN for making Geneva's last years both welcome and enjoyable. Reviewal at Washburn McReavy Strobeck Johnson Chapel, 1400 Mainstreet, Hopkins from 5-7 PM Sunday, May 17 and at the Church one hour before the Funeral Mass. Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM Monday, May 18 at St. Gabriels Catholic Church - St. Joseph Campus 1310 Mainstreet, Hopkins.
