Gary Albert Fix

Gary Albert Fix, 77, of Saint Louis Park, lost his battle with cancer on June 8th, 2026. Gary was born to Shirley and William Fix on April 29th, 1949. He was one of 6 children in their big, beautiful family, and he had endless stories of their shenanigans while growing up in Saint Louis Park. Gary graduated from SLP high school in 1967. He entered the army at the age of 18, and served in Alaska until 1971. Serving his country was one the greatest accomplishments of his life. Gary met Jody Haslip (Olson) in 1973. They married in 1974 and had their first son, Jesse, in 1976. They had their second son, Patrick, in 1982. Gary found a passion for carpentry and later became an integral part of running the city of Saint Louis Park until he retired. He never lost touch with all of his friends from that period of his life. Each of them had a nickname he endearingly gave them, as did everyone in his life. We still don't know many given names of anyone he held close to his heart. Gary was a doting father who put everything he had into his family and friends. He loved sports, especially baseball and hockey, and spent years supporting his son and coaching his various teams throughout his youth. He later joined Jesse in doing the same for his children. He was an active participant in his three grandchildrens' activities and was the first to need a Kleenex after any performance or game. He was so proud of his grandkids. Gary loved nothing more than a good laugh and a big hug. His sense of humor was infectious and he was always good for a joke or a funny one-liner. He leaves behind many people who will miss that part of him the most. The world was a much funnier place when we still had him. Gary is preceded in death by his beloved son, Patrick; his loving parents; and siblings, Char and Nancy. He is survived by son, Jesse (Salina); grandchildren, Jadan, Skylar and Fraya Fix; siblings, Beverly (Doug Thompson), Donna and Bruce Fix (Patty); cousin and best friend, Jackie Lemke; Along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He made an impact on so many people, it would be impossible to name them all. We are all feeling the loss of his magnetic presence greatly. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 10th from 2-4 pm at Hopkins Elk's Lodge -30 8th St. Hopkins, MN. All are welcome to come and share stories and laughs as we celebrate the life of our beloved Gary. He will later be laid to rest with his son, Patrick, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, surrounded by immediate family. We will always cherish the memories we have with Gary, and his love and humor will never fade. He was one of a kind, and forever our favorite guy.
