Garhardt Charles Balego a kind and generous soul, Gary, age 73, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully in the arms of his family, Sunday, December 3. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret, siblings Bonnie and Randy, and precious granddaughter, Colette Anna Belle. Gary is survived by wife, Gail, children Noah (Jessica), and Anna (Chad), grandchildren Estella, Adrienne, Gigi, Madeleine, Vincent, Eli, Leon, and brothers Greg (Jeanne) and Danny (Deb). Gary was a dedicated family man, and his grandchildren provided some of the greatest joys of his life. Gary will be deeply missed by his extended family and many close friends. Gary grew up in St. Anthony Village, attending St. Charles Borromeo School, DeLaSalle HS, and the University of MN. He also served in the US Army Reserve. His career rode the wave of the blossoming MN medical device industry, and for over 30 years had his own business serving the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation medicine. Together over 50 years, Gary and Gail enjoyed traveling, entertaining family and friends at their beautiful home, and pontoon cruising on Pike Lake, in New Brighton. Recently, they moved to the St. Anthony Falls area of Minneapolis, where they could take in the city skyline and all the surrounding activity. Gary's family wishes to express enormous gratitude to the wonderful caregivers he encountered at North Memorial-Robbinsdale, especially Dr. King, for his surgical skills and humanity, Dr. Witt, for her compassion, and the amazingly talented and caring staff of the Cardiac ICU and Cardiac Stepdown unit. With every obstacle Gary encountered, they all worked hard to find a path to his recovery. Also, eternal thanks to Fr. Joseph Gillespie for the blessings of his friendship and constant support. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Thursday, January 4, at 10 AM, with visitation beginning at 9 AM, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1 Lourdes Place, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memoriam to support Gary's favorites: Colette Deley Memorial Library programming, St. Vincent de Paul School, Osseo MN; Architectural Preservation Endowment supporting the Churches of Northeast Minneapolis, administered by Holy Cross Catholic Church; and DeLaSalle HS, Mpls. - the family will honor your preference.
