Gail Marie Lashbrook

Gail Marie Lashbrook, age 69, was called home to heaven on angels' wings on February 3, 2024. She passed peacefully after a short but fierce, courageous, battle with pancreatic cancer. We are comforted to know she has been reunited with her parents, Robert and Georgia (née Rachie) Lashbrook; brother, Gary Lashbrook; uncle, Dave Rachie and her faithful dogs Skipper I, Gomer I, Gomer II, Duke, Angel, Ginger and Skipper II. Gail was born on January 24, 1955, in Mankato, Minnesota. Gail's love for nature and the great outdoors began at an early age, when she spent time playing with her siblings and childhood friends at Sibley Park in Mankato. Robert and Georgia moved the family to Bloomington when Robert accepted a State of MN Health Department job in Minneapolis in 1968. Gail achieved a degree from Normandale Community College. She worked at Pouliot Designs with her mother, Georgia. She also worked at AAA dispatching help to stranded motorists and held a paper route at the same time, delivering the Star tribune. Gail worked in administration at Graybar Electric for 30 years and retired from there 2020. Gail was a gentle soul who equally enjoyed a steaming cup of decadent hot cocoa (not the cheap Swiss Miss) or a tequila sunrise, depending on the situation, the smell of her homemade bread baking permeating throughout her house, the sound of cardinals calling, watching eagles soar free in the sky, and contributing to earth's beauty by planting beautiful flower gardens in pinks and purples in her yard. Gail was creative and loved to decorate her home for each season, oil painting, embroidery and other crafts. One of Gail's favorite places to visit was Itasca State Park. Gail was ahead of her time and enjoyed nature bathing and meditating in the forest before it became a trendy thing to do. She also loved walking the Minneapolis chain of lakes and Hyland Park in Bloomington with her dogs. Gail loved her family and friends. She was the perfect confidant - a great listener, who offered advice and support as needed without being intrusive. Gail enjoyed getting to know people and hearing about what was going on on their lives - even in her final days, she wanted to know about the new people she just met (wonderful caring nurses and aides) - what was going on in their lives and how they were feeling as they took care of her. Gail had many wonderful friends, but there are four in particular we'd like to acknowledge for the care, love and support they provided Gail in her final days, which allowed us to honor Gail's wish to remain at home - Jane Sikkink, Cheryl Brown, Dayna Asche and Sue Westerberg. We are truly grateful for all you did. You are definitely not only "Gail's Angels," but are also now a part of our family forever. Additionally, we are grateful for the care and support from Minnesota Oncology, Hospice of the Midwest and Bright Star Home Care. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Janice (née Lashbrook) Thury and her husband, Tom; nieces Christina Thury and Beth Ann (Chris) Evers, nephews Tommy Thury, Christopher Lashbrook, Levi Lashbrook, Michael (Rachel) Thury and Ben Lashbrook; best friend Jane Sikkink, beloved dog, Sherlock, extended family and many friends. Gail planned quite the party to celebrate her life. All are welcome to join us on Monday, February 12, 2024, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 8400 France Ave., Bloomington, MN 55431 to share memories and honor her life. Visitation begins at 10:30am, followed by the service at 11:30am and lunch at 12:30pm. Gail would want everyone to come as they are and dress comfortably. As much as she enjoyed decadent hot coca, this is an occasion that calls for a tequila sunrise. Gail will be joining us from heaven with the libation in her hand, a smile on her face, surrounded by loved ones from above. Memorials may be sent to the Animal Humane Society; Hospice of the Midwest, Edina, MN location; or BrightStar Home Care South Minneapolis Metro location.
