Fredrick John Walch

Fredrick John Walch passed away on April 13, 2026, at the age of 80, leaving behind a life marked by hard work, community service, and devotion to family. Fred grew up in South Minneapolis, where he formed the strong values and work ethic that guided him throughout his life. He later raised his own family in Coon Rapids, spending memorable weekends at their cabin on Fawn Lake. He spent his career as a dedicated pipefitter with Local 539, taking immense pride in his work and in the relationships he built along the way. Upon retirement, Fred made his home on his property at Fawn Lake, where he found lasting friendships and fulfillment through community involvement. Fred enjoyed spending time with family and having breakfast with friends at the A-Pine Restaurant in Pequot Lakes. He gave back to his community by volunteering countless hours with the Lakes Area and Crosslake Food Shelfs-an effort that reflected his generous spirit and commitment to helping others. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Audrey; his brother, Jeffrey; and his beloved son, David. He is survived by his sons, Daryl and Douglas (Kelly); daughter-in-law, Lynn; siblings, Russell (Trish), Janice Edwards, and Nancy Ocel (Sam); as well as many special friends. He was a proud "Grandpa Freddie" to his five grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. Fred is remembered for his steady presence, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and his deep love for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 23, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson St., Anoka, MN. Visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park. Life Celebration will take place Saturday, April 25, from 1:00-3:00 PM at Moonlite Bay Family Restaurant and Bar in Crosslake, MN.
