Frederick Thorson

Thorson, Frederick L. age 89, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2008, at his apartment at Walker Place after coping with Parkinson's disease for many years. Preceded in death by his mother and father, Frieda and Henry; brother, Harry; and sister, Mona Haxby. Survived by nephew, David (Jacki) Haxby and niece, Elaine Wilderman; as well as many loving friends. Fred was born on December 30, 1918 in Minneapolis and was a resident of Minneapolis for his entire life. He was a graduate of Washburn High School and the University of Minnesota Law School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Fred was a member of the law firm of Mackall, Crounse & Moore, PLC for over fifty years and was very active in bar association activities. Regarded as the dean of real estate specialists, he was Chairman of the Minnesota State Bar Association Real Estate Section, the Hennepin County Bar Association and the Minnesota Title Standards Committee. He was a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association and American Bar Association and served nationally and locally as an officer of Attorneys' Title Guaranty Company. Fred made substantial contributions to various charities, including Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, Courage Center and the University of Minnesota Law School. He had many years of participation in Republican politics including being a delegate to Republican Party National Conventions. Activities in connection with Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church included Finance Committee Chair, founding member of the Foundation Board, charter Spire Member, Staff Parish Relations Chair, Trustee Board Member and charter member of the Planned Giving and Development Committee. His involvement with Courage Center was seventeen years as member of the Board of Directors, three years as Vice President and Executive Committee Member and two years as President. Fred is a member of Minikahda Club and was a member of the Minneapolis Club, Minneapolis Athletic Club, and the Minneapolis Gyro Club. Fred will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family expresses its appreciation to Fred's caregivers for their gentle and loving care. Funeral Thursday 2:00 PM at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, 511 Groveland at Lyndale Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
