Franklin McCrary, Jr.

Franklin McCrary Jr., age 75, of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on December 18, 2022. Franklin was born on March 24, 1947, the second child of Eva (nee Bryant) McCrary and Franklin McCrary Sr. Just 11 months apart in age, Frank Jr. grew up with his older sister Yvonne, with whom he shared many experiences and adventures during their childhood on Chicago's South Side. Through elementary school (Saint Elizabeth's Catholic School) and secondary school (Harlan High School) Frank Jr. and Yvonne were inseparable. As Frank and Yvonne approached adolescence, a younger sister, Denise, was born and several years later, a younger brother, Keith, was born to the family. Always a hard worker with a focus on improving his life, Frank Jr. worked his way through high school at A & P Grocery Store and funded his college education, first at The University of Illinois - Chicago Circle campus and subsequently at Southern Illinois University where he attained a baccalaureate degree in Finance. With his newly minted degree, Frank entered the professional work world, applying his finance degree at Travelers Insurance. Shortly thereafter, his horizon on the personal front also expanded as he began dating Yolanda Carol Clark. As his expertise grew, Travelers Insurance re-assigned Frank Jr. to their offices in Minneapolis, MN. Accepting this change in position, Frank and his soon to be bride made the move to Minneapolis in 1976. A few short years later, Frank Jr. and Yolanda tied the knot on September 8, 1979. To this union, three sons were born -Franklin III (1979), Oliver (1984), and Winston (1987). Always focused on improving things for his family, Frank pursued training as a realtor and became a practicing real estate agent for Edina Reality. Though hard at work, Frank was a devoted family man and enjoyed his time and experiences with family including his grandson, Maleko. Over time, Frank's professional interests evolved, and he ultimately became an educator working with disabled children in District One, Minneapolis Public Schools; moreover, he also revived his professional realtor career. However, as time progressed, life took it's toll, but Frank was a fighter...his marriage to Yolanda dissolved, but they worked together co-parenting their children and were close friends until his end. He survived cancer not once, but twice - in 2013 and again in 2017 - before passing on December 18, 2022. Frank Jr. is preceded in death by his son, Winston; brother, Keith; and parents, Frank Sr. and Eva. He is survived by his sons, Franklin McCrary III and Oliver McCrary; grandson, Maleko Lattin McCrary; ex-wife, Yolanda Clark; sisters, Yvonne Harvey and Denise (Spencer) Foote; niece, Brigitte Powe-Bentley; nephews, Alonzo Powe Jr., Christopher Foote, and Nicholas Foote; grand-niece, Kayla Kimes; grand-nephews, Montrell Green, Tavon Powe, Taveon Powe, Jayvon Bentley, Alonzo Powe III, and Caleb Powe; numerous cousins, and friends. Memorial service to be held on Saturday, January 21st, from noon til 2 PM, at Liberty Community Church - Northside Healing Space, 2100 N. Emerson Ave, Mpls.
