Francis C. Schroeder Francis Schroeder, 79, passed away on July 2, 2026. Although his passing was unexpected, he passed peacefully and was surrounded by family. Francis was born in 1947, the sixth born of thirteen children raised on the family farm by his parents, Lloyd and Germaine. That upbringing gave him a lifelong love of the land and a work ethic that never left him. He was a graduate of Minnetonka High School and served in the United States military, where he met the love of his life, Christa. In 1968, the two married in Germany before returning home to build their life together in Minnesota, raising two children and celebrating four grandchildren. Francis spent over 40 years as a maintenance engineer for St. Louis Park Schools, where his talent for fixing anything, anywhere, became legendary. He was, in every sense, an electrical engineer and HVAC professional by trade and a problem-solver by nature - there was no machine, motor, or mishap he couldn't figure out. He also occasionally worked alongside a couple of his brothers at Bollig's and Sons for many years. Outside of work, Francis lived a full and varied life. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, dancing, bluegrass music festivals, and playing music with the Cajun community. He could pick up almost any instrument and simply play, with a special love for his 12-string guitar, accordion, and fiddle. He and Christa were remarkable dancers, and anyone who saw them on a dance floor together won't forget it. He cherished time spent camping with family and friends, always ready with his cooking tripod, cast iron, a helping hand, and an instrument for the jam. Together, with the help of family and friends, Fran and Christa built their dream home down the road from family. They created hiking trails where they also enjoyed cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, a huge garden, and the perfect sledding hill for the grandkids. They spent summers camping with family and special friends, going to music festivals, dancing, enjoying nature, and working on any home projects anyone needed help with. Fran kept his connection strong with Christa's family in Germany, traveling there several times after she passed away. He was there for Oktoberfest a couple of years ago and his nieces and great niece have come to the US and stayed with him. He enjoyed showing them around and introducing them to their extended family. He held family close and never missed an event. Francis is survived by his two children, Denise and John Schroeder; his grandchildren, Brittany, Morgan, Kylie, and Bryce; great-grandchildren; sisters (Mary, Bernadette, and Florence), brothers and sisters-in-law (Harry, Al & Mary, Wally & Queenie, Mike & Lisa, Jerry & Robin, Greg, and James & Sharon), countless nieces and nephews and great, great-great nieces and nephews - all named "George" by Uncle Franny. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christa; his parents, Lloyd and Germaine; His sisters, Joan and Theresa; sisters-in-law, Scheery and Kitty; and brother-in-law, Gene. He is and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will be joyfully remembered for his musical talent, his amazing mind and ability to figure out and fix anything, his dancing, and the unwavering love he shared with Christa for a lifetime. He was truly everything to everyone. He was always there, always helping, always. All who knew and loved Francis are welcome to come celebrate a life well-lived, filled with music, family, friends, and dancing. Celebration of Life: A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Everett McClay Bloomington VFW Post 1296 311 W 84th Street, Bloomington, MN 55420. Please enter through the "Event" door; first entrance as you enter the parking lot. Bill Litzau & Open Highway will perform live from 2:00-4:00 PM Musicians are warmly invited to bring their instruments for a jam before/after the band.
