Francis Joseph Pasnecker

Francis Joseph Pasnecker, 82, passed away at Little Hospice in Edina, MN on August 4, 2026. Fran, as he was known to friends and family, was born on January 17, 1944. He led a life marked by dedication to his family and passion for his work. Fran was well known for his incredible intellect. He was passionate about learning and acquiring knowledge. He pursued his education with vigor, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Holy Cross Seminary in 1966, a Master of Social Work from Loyola University in 1973, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1993. He is survived by his children, Megan Pasnecker and Niko Pasnecker; his granddaughter Scarlett Rosalie Preble; his brother, Fred Pasnecker; and his sisters Janet Blair and Mary Johnson. Fran was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Laura Mary Linhoff Pasnecker. Fran's life was a testament to the joy of exploration and learning. He was fluent in French, Latin and Greek. He loved travel, languages, philosophy, history, science and nature. He was known for his empathy, warmth and care of others. He was driven by his passion to advocate for children and the vulnerable. In addition to his notable scholastic achievements, Fran also enjoyed a life filled with adventure and rich experiences. Between his time at Holy Cross and beginning at Loyola, he lived and studied theology at the Vatican in Rome. When he had time off he traveled throughout Europe, initially with other seminarians and later with his wife Laura. Fran and Laura's most favorite person was their granddaughter, Scarlett. Fran and Scarlett had a special relationship marked by twice weekly dinners for the last six years. They treasured their time spent together going on adventures, vacations, and overnights. They spent hours listening to music, doing arts and crafts, making slime and cooking. Fran will be remembered for his inquisitive nature, quiet tenacity, gentle spirit and enduring love for his family. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am on Friday, August 21, 2026 all at Washburn-McReavy, 5000 W 50th St, Edina, MN 55436. Burial will take place around 2:00 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery, 5555 Covington Rd, Shorewood, MN 55311. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Sharing and Caring Hands or Minnesota Public Radio (MPR).
