Floyd L 'Call' Monroe

Monroe, Floyd L. "Cal" Age 88, of New Hope, was born in S. Sioux City, NE on January 22, 1928 at home in a one bedroom house and lived there with 4 brothers and Mom and Dad. Preceded in death by daughters, Terri and Nicole; mother, Catherine; father, Lawrence; 3 brothers. Survived by wife of 66 years, Jan; daughter, Pam & husband Kevin; son, Kelley & wife Nancy; grandsons, Justin Davis and Joel Monroe and wife Emily; brother, Clifford and wife Phyllis, also Waldo his very special dog. He married Janice Welcher in 1949. They were married 66 years. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Grandson Justin lived with the grandparents most of his life. Justin was treated like a son. Grandson Joel was the kicker for the Minnesota Gophers for 5 years and Cal was so proud of him for that, but very proud that he graduated with honors as a chemical engineer. He was a member of Redeemer Covenant Church and former member of Trinity Covenant Church for 38 years. He was head usher, served on many boards until the church dissolved. He worked for the FORD MOTOR CO. OUT OF DETROIT for 32 years. He was salesman of the year Nationwide on 20 different occasions. He won 22 trips all over the world and both Jan and Cal enjoyed them. After he retired they continued to go on a yearly trip. Cal loved to travel, especially the cruises. He had a winning smile and personality and everyone loved him. He was always ready to help anyone that needed help. He started volunteering at the NEAR FOOD SHELF in 1989 right after he retired. He stayed for 27 years. He was President of the board 4 times. He received many awards from both Ford and Near Food Shelf and would not allow anyone to put them up because he did not think what he did was that significant. He was responsible for the buying of the building that the food shelf is in today. Without his persistence it would have never happened. Cal and Jan bought a lake home in 1985. They considered this a little bit of heaven where family and friends came to rest and to have fun. Cal was an avid fisherman and loved to have people over for fish dinners. There is a sign on our fishing wall that says, "I will fish until my dying day and then I pray that I will be considered good enough to keep."
