Fern L. Emery

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Fern L. Emery (Rollag), our beloved mother and grandmother, who left us on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the age of 83. Fern's life was a testament to love, kindness, and selflessness. As a mother and grandmother, she was a constant source of support, wisdom, and unwavering love, always there when we needed her most. Her presence in our lives will forever be cherished. For over 35 years, Fern was a beloved foster parent in Anoka County, St. Francis, MN, opening her heart and home to more than 200 children. She devoted her life to making a difference in the lives of others, offering comfort and stability to those in need. Her legacy of compassion and strength will live on in the many lives she touched. Fern was born on March 4, 1941, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Andrew and Alma Rollag. She grew up on the family farm in rural Underwood, MN, alongside her eight siblings, where the values of hard work, love, and community were instilled in her. Fern was a lifelong caregiver, always willing to go above and beyond to care for others, even up to the day she passed. One of her greatest joys was spending summers at Bent Trout Lake Campground, where she had a permanent campsite and cherished the friendships she made within that community. She loved the outdoors, and her warmth and kindness made her a beloved member of the camp family. Fern had a special bond with animals, especially her cherished yorkie, Gorgeous, who will continue to bring her memory to those who knew them both. Fern is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Alma Rollag; her six brothers, Vernon, Arnold, Norman, Kenneth, Earl, and Donald Rollag; her two sisters, Eunice Schutte and Darlene Drechsel; her son, Daniel Fjeld; her daughter, Debra Emery; her son-in-law, Michael Ornat; and her best friend, Carol Haugstad. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Anita Parenteau (Rodney) of St. Francis, MN, and Linette Carlson (Timothy) of Ramsey, MN, along with seven grandchildren: Alicia Abernathy (Ryan Snicale), Ashley Berg (Zack), David Ornat (Sam Johnson), Tyler, Brandon, Dayanara, and Jeovany Carlson. Fern's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. Fern's life was one of giving, nurturing, and love. She will be profoundly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her, but her spirit will continue to guide us as we carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel, located at 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd, Coon Rapids, MN 55433. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Following the service, a funeral reception will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Chanticlear Pizza Grill, 7876 Sunwood Dr. NW #100A, Ramsey, MN 55303.
