Evelyn Fern Wiig

Wiig, Evelyn Fern Age 90, of Minnetonka, was born May 28, 1925, on a farm near Plaza, ND to Garrison & Bessie Ballard; died Dec. 19, 2015 at The Glenn in Glen Lake. Attended country school grades 1-8 & freshman year of high school in Plaza, ND. She moved to a farm near Pelican Rapids, MN with her mother & brothers, George & Ralph in 1940. Graduated from High School there 1943 & from St. John's school of Nursing as an RN in 1946. Worked as a Public Health nurse, prepared as Military Nurse and worked in various clinics. She married Allen Wiig in Fargo, 1949. They lived in Fargo, Moorhead then moved to Minnetonka in 1963. Retirement years were spent in Plymouth and finally at The Glenn in Minnetonka. Their home on Pelican Lake was the most joy of all. Time spent with relatives and friends through many years created precious memories and was always their favorite place. Evie was a member of P.E.O. for many years and Faith Presbyterian Church of Minnetonka. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening, & raising St. Bernard puppies and Bingo at The Glenn. She had an immense love for family, friends, children and animals and even calmed a cougar at a car show! She will be greatly missed by many for her love, compassion, devotion to Al, her smile, the twinkle in her eyes and her amazing strength to keep going (especially in later years) even when "all shook up." Preceded in death by loving Husband, Allen 01/05/15; one infant daughter, 3 infant sons; parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother. Survived by children: Michael (Mary Beth), Mary Bach, Marjorie Mason (Neal), Marcia Martens (Mike), grandchildren: Caitlin, Tyler (Cynthia), Dan (Lindsey), Lauren, Jake, Eric, Joe, Sam, Rachel, Matt, Isaac; great- grandchildren: Haven and Jack; & her amazing 100 year old brother, George. Funeral Service 11 AM on Mon. Jan. 11th, 2016 at Faith Presbyterian Church 12007 Excelsior Blvd. in Minnetonka. Visitation 3-5 PM on Sun. Jan. 10th, 2016 at Washburn-McReavy Strobeck Johnson Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment Sunset Memorial Garden in Fargo, ND at a later date.
