Evelyn Racine Sell

Bloomington - Evelyn "Racine" Sell passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, at age 92 after a long battle with dementia. She was born in Moulton, Alabama, to Travis Reed, a farmer, and Minnie Reed, a homemaker. This was the height of the Depression and there was little money for the family. Racine, as she is best known, talked about picking cotton on the family farm. In addition to farming, Travis traveled to various small churches where he preached the Gospel. After leaving the farm Travis became a patrolman for Chickasaw, Alabama where he retired. Racine graduated from Murry High School in 1951 and became employed as typist. Somehow, around 1953, Racine crossed paths with Robert "Bob" Sell who was undergoing flight training in the U.S. Navy at Pensacola Navel Air Station. A relationship bloomed which resulted in Bob leaving flight training to marry Racine. They were married in December of 1954 in Mobile Alabama. They moved to Minneapolis where Bob gained employment at Honeywell. Racine worked at Indianhead Boys Scout Headquarters and later for Southtown Baptist Church. Southtown Baptist Church became the center of the couple's life until Racine was diagnosed with dementia in 2015. In 2007 they moved to a condo that was next to the church. Racine was particularly fond of singing in the choir. Bob lost a battle to cancer in December of 2016 resulting in the need to place Racine in a memory care unit at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington. A thanks goes out to the staff of the Arbor unit who tended to her for almost 10 years. A very special thank you to Pastor Chris Reinertson of Southtown Baptist Church and Mrs. Theresa Dinning for their help over the years. Racine's loves include in order, Southtown Baptist church, her husband Bob and her cat, Sneakers. Racine's parents and a brother, Travis Reed preceded her in death. She is survived by her nephew David Reed and niece Lucy Reed both from Alabama, in-laws Glenn Sell and Merrie Sell of Hastings, nieces, Emily Reed and Leslie Arnold and grand nephews, Isadore an Axel Arnold and grand niece Arabella Arnold. Racine will be buried at Fort Snelling where her beloved husband Bob is buried.
