Eugene Walter Killey

Major Eugene (Gene) Walter Killey, U.S.A.F., Retired, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2020 at The Glenn Care Suites in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Gene was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts to Lillian (Baxter) Killey and William H. Killey on May 30,1929. He graduated from Gloucester High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Shortly after, the branch split into the Army and the Air Force, he chose to stay with the Air Force. Back home on leave he met, became engaged, and later married Sarah (Sally) Frontiera. Gene’s time in the U.S.A.F. took them across the globe to Greece, California, Oklahoma, and Colorado before retiring from the military with a house full of children. During his time in the service he earned Master degrees in both Business and Electrical Engineering. His first civilian job was at Litton Industries in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, then on to Data Card in Hopkins, Minnesota, where he later retired. Gene and Sally were long time residents of Hopkins and Minnetonka and spent many winters at their home near Las Vegas, Nevada. In his younger years he was busy with Boy Scouts and Knights of Columbus. Once retired he filled his time with his hobbies including golfing, woodcarving, BINGO, Blackjack, Cribbage and shooting pool with the guys. He loved to tell everyone stories about growing up in his beloved childhood home of Gloucester, MA. He was not quiet unless he was napping! Preceded in death by Sally, the love of his life for 64 years. Also preceded in death by his parents William and Lillian Killey, and sister Mary Lou (Ziggy) Joseph. Survived by children, Mike (Laurie) Killey, Susie (Bary) Easton, Bobby (Julie) Killey, Gina (Damon) Mathews, and Lisa (Mike) Pavelka, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, sister Natalie Linquata of Gloucester as well as many nieces and nephews. Gene and Sally were members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Minnetonka. There are no services planned at this time. Together, they will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling Cemetery. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful caregiving group and entire staff at The Glenn, Dr. Teresa Quinn, Kumba Kanu, NP and the Park Nicollet hospice team. A special thank you to Deacon Michael who spent precious time with Gene in his last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Nicollet Foundation/Hospice Home Care (parknicollet.com) or the USO (uso.org).
