Emily Jo Wetterstrom

Wetterstrom, Emily Jo age 53, of Plymouth, MN, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 3rd, 2015 at Methodist Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Emily was born on August 13, 1962 in Mankato, MN to Leslie and Martha Curtis. She graduated from Anoka High School in 1981 and from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1985. She married Roy Wetterstrom, on June 25, 1988 in Anoka, MN. Emily and Roy spent five wonderful years together in Manhattan, NY where Emily earned her Masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education at New York University and went on to teach at a private elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. Emily was a full-time mother and homemaker for many years and resumed her teaching career part-time in 2010 at Heritage Christian Academy in Maple Grove, MN where she taught middle and high school students and founded and coached the girls' high school golf team. Emily cherished the time spent at the family lake home on Bay Lake in Deerwood, MN for 12 years and enjoyed hosting family and friends, laughing and creating priceless memories. She loved Heritage Christian Academy and was heavily involved there for 14 years as a parent and a volunteer and later also as a coach and teacher. She loved her students and the staff and they loved her back. She touched many lives there. Emily was deeply committed to her faith and studying the Word of God. She participated in and led numerous Bible studies and was responsible for starting new Bible study programs in multiple churches and organizations. She, along with her family, was a long time attender of Wayzata Evangelical Free church. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved family, friends, travel, hiking and her beloved Westies. She is survived by her husband Roy, son David and daughter Margaret; parents Leslie and Martha Curtis; sister Meg and her husband David Schultz; brother David Curtis and his wife Jennifer; father-in-law and mother-in-law Daniel and Kathleen Wetterstrom; brother-in-law Daniel Wetterstrom and his wife Darlene; brother-in-law Derek Wetterstrom and his wife Stacey; nieces Rebecca Vavilov and her husband Anatoliy, Mandy Curtis and Paige Wetter-strom; nephews Erik Schultz, Luke Wetterstrom, Jacob Wetterstrom, Cole Wetterstrom and Ty Wetter-strom; cousins and other relatives; many dear friends; and her 5 month old Westie puppy Bennett. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at Wayzata Evangelical Free Church in Plymouth, MN on Saturday, September 12, 2015. A visitation period will take place at the church prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 am. Emily wished that memorial gifts in her memory be given in lieu of flowers to Heritage Christian Academy, 15655 Bass Lake Road, Maple Grove, MN 55311 or to Wayzata Evangelical Free Church, 705 County Road 101 N, Plymouth, MN 55447.
