Elsie G. Trapp

Elsie G. Trapp, a life-long resident of St. Paul, died peacefully on August 31, 2018. She was born November 27, 1919 in her parent's home on Fry Street. She was Baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where her father served as the Pastor. Elsie graduated from Central High School in 1937. After her graduation, she worked for a short time in St. Paul, before moving to Milwaukee to be with her family. On June 27, 1939, she married Carl F. Trapp. Shortly before their wedding date, they bought a home at 1512 Simpson Street. This was to remain Elsie's home through her 55 years of marriage and for more than ten years after Carl's death. Elsie and Carl were devoted to their five children, their large extended family, and to their faith and church. They enjoyed spending time with family. Holidays were spent together and included an abundance of food, laughter, singing and game playing. They began a legacy twenty-eight years ago, that continues to this day, of taking the entire family to the "lake" around the Fourth of July to spend a week relaxing, swimming, boating, fishing, golfing and sitting around the campfire. Elsie served her church and community in countless ways, from teaching Sunday School to participating in Bible study groups, to singing, and by serving on the board of Lyngblomsten Senior Center. She was an active member of The Mother Singers of Chelsea Elementary. These mothers rehearsed in each other's homes, performed, and remained friends for more than fifty years. Elsie had a natural inquisitiveness in many things including art, music, history, science, and politics. She loved to read and into her nineties she brought that love to students at Chelsea through her tutoring and listening to the children read. Elsie is preceded in death by husband, Carl; parents, George and Dorothy Hansler; brother, George Hansler; son-in-in-law, Harry (Rosemary) Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Kay (Richard) Trapp. She is survived by her daughters, Rosemary Johnson, Dorothy (Thomas) Schomaker; and sons, Donald (Faith), Richard (Jane), and David (Mary Jo). She is also survived by brother Richard (Wanda) Hansler, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Elsie and Carl passed on their love of family, faith and church through their steadfast examples and genuine love.Funeral Service 11:00AM Wednesday, September 5th (visitation from 10-11AM) at Como Park Lutheran Church, 1376 Hoyt Avenue, St. Paul. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Como Park Lutheran Church, Global Health Ministries or to a charity of your choice.
