E.J. Renier

Renier, E.J. "Al" age 87, of Eden Prairie, on March 20, 2008. Beloved Husband of Elayne; and Father of E.J. "Rob" Jr. of Eden Prairie, Rick, daughter- in-law, Trudy of Roberts, MT; and Craig, daughter-in-law, Joan and grandchildren, Daniel & Nicole of Chanhassen. His love of music led him to play first Violin in the Virginia and Duluth Symphony Orchestras in his youth. A graduate of the University of Michigan, with a BS in Civil Engineering, he was very active in highway construction & reconstruction throughout the United States and Canada. Recipient of Cooley Cane Award. Member of ASCE, NYSP, CEQ, EIC, SWAC, PSI, CGR, Life Member American Society of Civil Engineers, and American Society of Engineers & Surveyors. Al also received many awards including the John T. Arnie Laingen Award, by CPI of MN Special recognition of outstanding service to Concrete Industry by SD chapter of ACI, Industry award to Concrete Paving Industry by CPA of MN, and Outstanding contribution to the Concrete Industry by the University of Minnesota. He published in excess of 20 technical papers on highway design and reconstruction. Military service from 1942 to 1946 was spent in Iceland, England, Scotland, France, Belgium and Germany. While in Iceland took part in construction of roads, hospital and concrete quay. Assigned to 5th Engineer Combat Regiment, 1276 Engineer Combat Battalion "A" Company. Awards included Bronze Star with "V", American Theater Ribbon, European Theater Ribbon with 3 Campaign clusters, Presidential Citation and Reserve Medal. He attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. Community Services were numerous, including Board of Directors for Establishment of National Big Brother Movement, Chairman, Charter Commission Eden Prairie School Board, Established and chaired MWTCA Mount Vernon Committee 1992 to 2000. Enjoyed collecting Antique tools, an active member of Midwest Tool Collectors from 1989 to 2008. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 25 at The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 13505 Excelsior Blvd., Minnetonka.
