Edward George Werner

Werner, Ed passed away (11/4/24) at the age of 74 from complications of cancer. He is survived by his wife Joani Werner, daughters, Candice Thomas, Carrie (Dustin) Ehlers, Courtney (Neil) Hess, and grandchildren, Gracie, Collin, Everett, Elizabeth, Elaine and Elliott. He leaves behind his sister Evy Robinson, Brothers Richard (Sharon) Werner, Robert Werner, sister-in-law Judy Rice as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was blessed to have many lifelong friends. Special thanks to Ron (MJ), Craig (Kristen), Todd (Mary), Byron (Patty), Jill (Mike), and Rob and Greg. Many thanks to Pastor Renee and Molly our cherished hospice nurse. Ed was raised in Windom, high school class of 1968. He completed his Masters Degree in Public Administration from Minnesota State- Mankato. He was a proud graduate and spent time being active on their foundation and alumni board. He was a member of the fraternity the TKEs while in college and kept in touch with many of his fellow TKEs. Ed cherished the time he spent on Pinky's Tattoo Parlor softball team while living in St. Peter, Minnesota. Ed had a career working as a hog farmer, then was a finance and business manager for Lagers in St. Peter before he began his 21 year career in the Minnesota Legislature. He worked in both the House and Senate as a senior researcher covering many issue areas including agriculture, bonding, and finance. He was well respected on both sides of the house. After retirement, he was elected and served four active years on the Arden Hills City Council. Ed loved his family more than anything. Ed and Joani had a love story that many people never have. He was known for many things but to name a few, his love for his family, his banana bread, pecan pies, his garden, and his German attitude. He loved his animals and will be deeply missed by Hennessey, Birchie and Lucky. Celebration of Life will be held November, 21st at Flaherty's Arden Bowl (1273 County Rd E, Arden Hills, MN 55112) in Arden Hills, MN. This gathering will be from 3-6pm with a short program at 3:45pm. Please wear pink or Minnesota Twins baseball attire. Memorials will be used for scholarships for new special ed teachers as well as donations to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Shoreview, MN.
