Earl George Burk

Burk, Earl G age 88, of Bloomington, died peacefully in his home on January 24, 2024. Loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn, son Jeffrey (Bridget) and grandchildren Conor, Jack, Kaitlyn and Zach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Nyla Burk, brother Tom and sister Lynn. Earl was born in Milwaukee, WI on April 8, 1935. After graduation from Boys Tech HS, he enlisted in the USMC where he served proudly for ten years. As a Marine, Earl acquired the discipline and organizational skills that prepared him for success as an astute businessman. Immediately after his military service, he went to work for a small computer company that became Control Data Corporation, the largest non-governmental employer in Minnesota. His position as an executive working in international marketing afforded him the opportunity to travel the world taking him to over 55 countries. After retirement in 2000, he began volunteering at Washburn Elementary School in Bloomington where his grandchildren Conor and Jack were students. His knowledge and the patience and dedication he brought to this time at Washburn resulted in countless rewards for the school and he loved every minute of it. He made a difference in the lives of many children. Grandpa Earl was loved and respected by teachers, staff and the students for more than15 years. Earl found time in his retirement years to become the Burk family chef. He brought his love of good food to the dinner table for years and was designated chef at dinner parties held at the family home. He never did anything halfway and his cooking skills confirmed that philosophy. While at Washburn, he even headed up the creation of a cookbook that was published and made available to the families at Washburn Elementary. Earl wore many hats. His family was the most important thing in his life. Getting together for birthdays, the holidays, vacations or just Sunday dinners were times he loved. He was proud of each family member and felt blessed to be the Burk patriarch. He will be forever missed. A special thanks to Grace Hospice and the care team at Grace Angels Team for their excellent care during his last weeks of illness. They were wonderful. Earl's funeral will take place on Friday, February 9th, 11:00 am at Church of St. Edward located at 9401 Nesbitt Avenue South, Bloomington, MN 55437. Visitation 1 hour prior to mass at the church, with luncheon to follow in the church hall. There will be a private burial for the family at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors.
