On August 25, 2016, in the family home and on his own terms, our dearest and bravest Father and Husband was called to his heavenly home after a 6 month battle with cancer. Doug was with his wife Denise who loves him dearly and deeply. He spent precious moments and time with their children: Joseph Douglas 25, Michael Christian Robert 23, and Chelsea Victoria 23. He was fiercely proud of his children. Doug was a fearless competitor in all areas of his life. In high school and college he played sports and excelled in football. He loved all sports, except soccer which he amusingly refused to acknowledge as a sport. As a man of God, he was willing and able to defend the gospel to his dying day. Acts 4:12. Doug was a Navy man serving as an Operations Specialist all family members found humor in that all three of the children chose the Army branch. Doug served as a Firefighter and Training Officer on the Oak Grove Fire Department, and was fulfilled in this calling and considered it an honor to serve. As a husband and father, he was a leader, strong in body, mind and spirit. He worked many years in the construction field to provide for his family and give his wife and children opportunity in education and life. Doug worked hard and played hard, and he taught his children to do the same. He taught his family to never fear trying new things and experiences, to always challenge themselves and never quit. He taught them to think beyond what others told them or taught them, and to always search out truth, and to find their strength in Christ. Lastly, he showed his wife Denise of 26 years, what it was like to be truly, unconditionally and thoroughly loved, respected and cherished. She'd not known the enormity of love before him.
