Dorothy Jean Norback

Dorothy Jean Norback, 98, of New Brighton and North Oaks, Minnesota, died December 31st, 2022. Dorothy, daughter of Eldo and Elsa Peterson of Giese, Minnesota, was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Wilbert Norback, son John (Kathy) Norback and daughter Sally (Steve Pease) Pilarski, brother Daniel Peterson, and brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Gloria Peterson She is survived by children David (Sheryll) Norback, Tom Norback, Joan (Colby) Verdegan, and Carol (David) Forsberg, and sister-in-law Evelyn Peterson. Dorothy is survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. After marriage in 1942, Dorothy and Wilbert lived in Northeast Minneapolis, and later moved to their home in New Brighton in 1965, where Dorothy lived until moving to Brookdale Senior Care, North Oaks, in 2017. Dorothy worked part time as a billing clerk for Beisswenger's Hardware for over 20 years. She loved flowers and gardening; there seemed to always be a little vase of her flowers on the kitchen table. Dorothy loved her time up north, visiting family, berry picking, and fishing at her cabin near Finlayson, Minnesota. Dorothy was an excellent cook and her family looked forward to her delicious meals, pies, cookies, and cinnamon rolls. She took up oil painting later in life, and her lovely artwork adorned her home. Like so many of her generation, there seemed to be nothing she couldn't do, from cleaning fish or dressing birds the hunters brought home, to wrangling kids and grandkids, painting and wallpapering, sewing, gardening, making jelly or putting up pickles. Dorothy was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran church in Northeast Minneapolis, and over the decades, was involved in many aspects of church life from Sunday school, altar guild, bible study, choir, and the "50+ Club." Dorothy loved and was loved by her big family. Her good nature and cheerful personality endeared her to those who knew her. Even in her final years, when so many memories were lost to her, she could still recollect many songs and would cheer up those around her with a sing-along. A memorial service and committal for Dorothy will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, 11 AM, with a visitation 1 hour before at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3014 McKinley Street NE, Mpls. Memorial;s may be made to the Alzheimers' Association of Minnesota/North Dakota.
