Dorothy Marie Guertin

Dottie Guertin, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 12th, 2024, following a very long journey with Alzheimer's Disease. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed, her sons Ed Guertin Jr., and Tom Guertin, daughter Sharon Struntz, and grandson Connor Anderson. She is survived by her children Mike Guertin (Young Hee), Dave Guertin (Terri), Glenn Guertin (Lena), Kathi Keute (Garry), and Kris Anderson (Randy), as well as 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Dottie will be remembered for being a beloved wife of 64 years, and along with her husband Ed, lovingly raising a family of 8 kids. Dottie was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA as part of a comparatively small family of only 2 children, so her huge transition to a mother of so many was an amazing feat! She will also be remembered for the great strength she possessed in enduring many losses and challenges within the family throughout her life. Dottie and Ed were wed in 1953, and were married for 64 years. They moved from Pennsylvania to St. Paul MN as soon as they were married, for Ed's work with 3M Co. They were active in school and church activities while their kids were growing up. Already in the throes of Alzheimer's at the time of Ed's passing, and he having been her main caregiver and great protector, it took amazing strength for her to imagine life without him. She impressively persevered and adapted her life at Waverly Gardens in North Oaks to include going to meals and activities with her friends, consistent visits and outings with her children, and adapting to the loss of her great Love. Dottie held on to life for 7 more years after Ed's passing, and now she is finally free from all fear and limitations, and is eternally, joyously back in his arms. We know she is also in God's protective arms forever now. Dottie loved all things "Family" - creating the best Christmas holidays for the kids and grandkids that any child could hope for, hosting constant family gatherings, meals and parties. She loved traveling both with the entire family, and with Ed, and loved both their retirement life in Florida and their close-knit friends and neighbors in Roseville, MN. She loved playing board and card games, and was a fierce competitor. She loved her dogs, her grandchildren, supporting her kids and grand-kids in all ways possible, and playing golf as best she could with friends. She had very dear friends over the years who enriched and added to her life. She got great joy from her visits back East to gather and celebrate life with her Guertin Family there. Our family sends its sincere gratitude to both Good Life Senior Living in Hugo, and Interim Healthcare Hospice Service, for their wonderful, compassionate care - we know how blessed we are to have found such caring individuals to make her feel as comfortable and cared for as possible in the last year of her life. Dottie's family will miss her deeply, but are forever in awe of her strength, and are celebrating her reunion in Heaven with Ed, her deceased children and grandchild, and her own brother and parents. Private funeral services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024.
