Dorothy Jane Anderson

Dorothy Jane Anderson, age 98, of Mound, MN peacefully passed away at N.C. Little Memorial Hospice on August 9, 2026. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Paul Anderson, her parents William and Nell Jongewaard, her brother Russell and sister Jean Thomas. She is survived by her daughters Debbie and Susan (Alan Harris), and sons Mark (Jodi), Scott (Kristi), and Brad (Sipiwe), and grandchildren John, Kevin (Danielle), Rochelle, Devin, Cameo, Taylor, Joshua and great granddaughter Charlee. Also survived by niece Martha Jongewaard and nephews Steve (Candace), Peter, and Joel (Jenny) Jongewaard and their families, and nieces Linda Anderson (Gary Fensterman) and Vicki Lee (Ron Fleming) and their extended families. Dorothy cherished them all. A lifelong Minnesotan, Dorothy was born in Nowthen and grew up in Big Lake, Elk River, and Monticello. She graduated from Northwestern Hospital's Nursing School in 1948 and served as a Registered Nurse prior to starting her family with Paul. Longtime members of Westwood Lutheran Church, Dorothy held down the fort with their five children in their St. Louis Park home while Paul traveled on business. With Dot's organization and planning, the family (all seven!) made numerous station wagon/tent trailer camping trips across Canada, the Rocky Mountains, and even far into Mexico. At her urging (insistence) Paul and Dot purchased a cabin on Big Sandy Lake in McGregor where she loved to care for her family, sweep the beach, and spend evenings around the campfire. She was a golfer at Lafayette Club, an investors club member, a longtime volunteer at the Landscape Arboretum, and an avid cook and gardener. She enjoyed dancing, entertaining, and following PGA Golf, Twins baseball, and Timberwolves and Lynx basketball at their home on Halsted Bay. She and Paul enjoyed opportunities to travel, including trips to Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia. Over the past 15 years, with help from her daughter and roomie Debbie, Dot continued to live in the Mound home she and Paul built in the early 1980s. The two ventured out every week with friends for Taco Tuesday and were well known regulars at Hazelwood in Excelsior. Arrangements by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels, 5000 West 50th Street, Edina. Visitation at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 22nd, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, and lunch at Noon. Private family interment at Riverview Cemetery in Monticello that same afternoon. Special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Tara McMichael at Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia. And to the amazing nurses and care team at Little Hospice for their gentle, loving care of Dorothy and her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
