Doris Mae Strand

Doris Mae Strand, age 85 of Hutchinson, MN died suddenly May 23, 2019 of an aneurysm. Doris was born May 13, 1934 in Gennessee Twsp, Atwater, MN to parents, Adolph and Leona (Thomas) Peterson. She was baptized July 29th at Immanual Lutheran Church, Atwater. She was confirmed in her faith March 21st, 1948 in Svea Lutheran Church, Svea, MN. She graduated from Norwood Central High School in 1952, and attended on year at Mankato State University. She moved to Minneapolis where she worked for AT&T for 3 ½ years. In 1957, she was married to Darrell Strand. They lived in Willmar for 2 ½ years before moving into Hutchinson, where she worked for 3M for 23 years; she enjoyed her job. She was always active in her churches. As a Luther League counselor, she taught Release Time; was twice president of FLCW; and with the help of two other mothers, started Vacation Bible School. She was a charter member of the Does, serving as President twice, serving on various boards, and as a State Treasurer for one year. Doris enjoyed keeping busy in her small flower garden, eating out, playing cards, volunteering with Senior Citizens, and staying involved with her old and new friends. She was an old movie buff, enjoyed learning and reading books right to the end. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, nephew, cousins, relatives and special school friends. Doris is survived by her daughter, Kim Strand and her partner Penny Edmiston; son, Thomas and his three children, Benjamin, Joanna and Garrett, Tom's wife, Diane and her two children, Kelli and Eric; daughter, Jill Attwood and husband, Graeme, their three children, Callie, twins Sadie and Elijah; nephew, Robert McLeod, Jr., and many friends. Preceded in death by her parents, sister, JoAnne and her husband, Robert McLeod, Sr., their two children, baby girl Lynn and son, Jay; the Attwood's baby son, Michael; and daughters-in-law, Teresa Strand and Carla Perna. Memorial Service 11 AM Friday, June 14th (gathering 10-11 AM) at Faith Lutheran Church 335 Main Street South, Hutchinson. Reception following service. Interment Union Cemetery, Atwater, MN. Memorials preferred in Doris's name to Common Cup Ministries, Hutchinson and McLeod Emergency Food Shelf, Glencoe, MN.
