Doris N Schmugge

Age 95, formerly of Vadnais Heights, passed away Tuesday Oct. 25th. Survived by her husband of 69 years, Rev. Frederick Schmugge. Doris Schmugge was born on January 5, 1921, to Emil & Hulda (Koehler) Richter of St. Louis, Missouri. Doris was made a child of God through Holy Baptism at Berea Lutheran Church in St. Louis, where she was also confirmed in the Christian faith. She met the love of her life, Frederick Schmugge, at a church Walther League gathering while Fred was studying to be a pastor at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. The couple was married on August 30, 1947. They were blessed with two adopted children, Betty Anne (Nesbit), of Charlotte, NC, and Karl of Saginaw, MI. For most of her life, Doris worked as an executive secretary for several different companies. Most important in Doris's life was her relationship with the Lord Jesus and her service to him with her life. Besides being a founding member of New Life Lutheran Church, Doris throughout her life served in the church as a Sunday school teacher, church organist, and Ladies Aid member. And now, because of the faith in Jesus her Savior that Doris confessed, she is now enjoying an eternal victory at her Savior's side in Paradise. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Phil Richter, William Richter, Victoria Rosenbloom, and Marge Griesmer. Besides her husband and children, surviving Doris are her ten grandchildren: Sarah (Travis) Wolter of Saginaw, MI; Rachel (Zachary) Kulish of Royal Oak, MI; Beth (Aaron) Steinbrenner of Livonia, MI; Leah (Abraham) Van Sice of Shelby Township, MI; Ellen Schmugge of Saginaw, MI; Jonathan Nesbit; Jane Nesbit; Monika Nesbit; Mary Nesbit; and David Nesbit, all of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren: Emma, Charli, and Zoey. "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Co 15:55-57) A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM, Sat. Oct. 29 at New Life Lutheran Church, 180 County Rd F, Shoreview, MN. (visitation 10 - 11 AM). Interment Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be designated for The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, MN; New Life Lutheran Church in Shoreview, MN; or Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, Michigan.
