Doris Louise Hedsten

Doris Louise Hedsten was born to Axel and Beda Algren in 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She had one older sister, Helen, who was born in 1922. The family spent many summers on the North Shore of Minnesota. During her formative years, Doris suffered with scarlet fever - fever severe enough to require a live-in nurse. During their isolation periods, their dad had to visit with the family through a window. Doris graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 1944. While she finished her last year of school, her future husband Clint Hedsten went into military service with the Army Air Corps during World War II and spent time as a bombardier on a B-29. Doris graduated from St. Olaf College and married Clint in 1949. Post war years, Clint worked for Carrier Air Conditioning Company, which moved the couple to Syracuse, New York, Chicago, Illinois, and Rochester, Minnesota and again back to Syracuse. Two daughters, Lynn Rae and Janel Louise, were born in 1952 and 1955, respectively. When the girls started middle school, Doris obtained her Masters' Degree in Education. She taught in Syracuse until Clint's work brought them back to Minneapolis. Doris then taught Title 1 in Farmington, Minnesota, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, professional Honor Society for women educators that worked to promote excellence in education worldwide. The organization gave away many scholarships and grants. Lynn and Janel grew up, married and made Doris a grandma. Lynn had two boys, Christopher in 1983, and Daniel 1984. Janel had six children, Isaac in 1985, Chelsea in 1987, Forrest in 1988, Chase in 1990 and twins Cali and Cody in 1993. Doris was a great-grandmother with the births of Chris three girls, Breeze, in 2011, and twins Coral and Ocean in 2012. Isaac's family produced two boys -Hezekiah in 2023 and Micah in 2024. Forrest's daughter, Talliah, was born in 2017. Chase's family welcomed two girls - Eloise in 2023 and Norah in 2025. Doris will be remembered by friends and family as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a fine cook. Grandkids of all ages remember spending time playing games like Skip-bo, Farkle, Trivial Pursuit and Yahtzee. She was very competitive with the kids and was a grand hostess during holidays, birthdays and family gatherings where the food was delicious, table sets were impeccable and hospitality was second-to-none. Daughter Lynn remembers - aside from Doris sewing many of her clothes - toboggan rides, camping, baking Christmas cookies and more. Doris celebrated her 100th birthday this past April, and now is pain free, home with Our Lord.
