Donna Mae Smith

Donna Mae Smith was born into this world on November 22, 1935, with her twin sister Darleen who was born 10 minutes later at Fredric Hospital. November of 1947, Donna Mae was very ill with whooping cough and was diagnosed with COPD, needing nebulizer and inhaler treatments. At this time, she was afraid she was going to die and asked her mother, Evelyn Smith to help bring her to Christ. On November 30th, 1947, Donna Mae accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. April 23rd, 1950, Donna Mae was Baptized by Immersion. Donna Mae graduated from St. Croix Falls High School in 1955. After graduation, she attended Fredric School of Nursing to practice nursing, while working at the Fredric Hospital for 6 years. In 1961 Donna Mae moved to the Twin Cities with her twin sister Darleen. Working at Midway Hospital as a Nursing Assistant from May 9th, 1961, through January 15th, 1996, for 35 ½ years, until the day the hospital closed its doors. During this time, she took night courses at 4th Baptist Bible Institute for Bible Doctor-an and Theology for two years, graduating on May 13th, 1976. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting with the church ladies. In 1997, after the hospital closed, Donna Mae moved into her sister Darleen's house, where they have lived and shared a life together. In this time, they enjoyed playing instruments together as a duet, Darleen played the accordion and Donna Mae played the guitar. They had taken lessons at Thorguard Anderson Music Center in Minneapolis for 6 years. Donna Mae and Darleen were active members of Central Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Donna Mae suffered many illnesses including needing her tonsils removed as a child, a broken arm, needing to have a hysterectomy young in life, an ulcer to her ankle due to lack of circulation to her veins, and a stroke in 2012 leaving her unable to speak. At this time, she had surgery to widen her throat, where she suffered a heart attack. Many falls, one needing to have surgery due to a broken hip. Through all of this, Donna Mae stayed strong in her belief with Jesus. This last stroke that occurred on July 30th, 2024 was detrimental. Donna Mae left us on August 12th, 2024, now Donna Mae is in peace, in heaven with her Lord and Savior, and family that has preceded her; her parents, Joseph and Evelyn Smith, her two brothers Donald and Daniel Smith, and her sister Ruth Nutt. Donna Mae leaves behind two brothers, Paul Smith who is living in Florida and Leslie Smith from Taylor's Falls, Minnesota, and four sisters, including her twin sister Darleen Barnes from St. Paul, Minnesota, Ann (Isabelle) Mullins from Mesa, Arizona, Rose Peterson who lives in Blaine, Minnesota, and Lois Lott from Superior, Wisconsin, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, along with great great nieces and nephews. Service Monday, August 19th, 2024, at Noon (Visitation 11:00 AM - Noon) at Central Baptist Church; 420 Roy St. N. St. Paul, MN. Burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
