Donna Lou Langer

Langer, Donna Lou Donna Lou (Larson) Langer was born February 28, 1928 in Maxwell Township in Western Minnesota to Edna Grace (Grow) and James Bryan Larson. She died on August 31, 2020. She is survived by her four children: Laura Lee Langer, Eden Prairie; Paul (Linda) Langer, Brookfield WI; Carol Lynn Langer, Austin TX; Lois Ann Langer Thompson (Jeff), Marysville, WA; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Michael) Knous and David Langer, and great-grandchildren, Willow and Celeste Knous. Seeing her family and friends always brought a big smile to her face. She loved being a mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Donna grew up in Boyd, Minnesota where she attended the public high school. She completed a secretarial course at the Minneapolis Business College. After graduation, she worked for an insurance company in Minneapolis before becoming employed at Barrett Moving & Storage where she met her future husband Joe. Shortly after they were married, Joe was drafted and sent to Kansas. She joined him a few months later and they lived in Junction City, Kansas while Joe was stationed at Ft Riley in the US Army. When Joe's service was finished, the couple moved back to Minneapolis and soon started their family. Joe went back to work for Barrett Moving & Storage. Donna occasionally returned to work part-time at Barrett when her children were grown. They lived in South Minneapolis, St Louis Park, Bloomington, Edina and Eden Prairie over the years. She last lived at The Waters (formerly The Colony) of Eden Prairie, where she made friends and enjoyed activities like Wii bowling and bingo. The couple joined Mt Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis after their marriage. Donna had attended Mt Olivet since she first arrived in Minneapolis and was a faithful and faith-filled member for 75 years. She headed up the Mt Olivet Homes Auxiliary and volunteered on the switchboard in the church offices for many years. Donna was a leader for her daughters' Girl Scout troops. Later in her life, she began a 20-year volunteer career at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, directing incoming calls and greeting and assisting visitors and patients at the hospital. She was recognized by Fairview for over 5,000 hours of service. Donna was a competitive and passionate bridge player. She belonged to several bridge clubs over the years, and loved playing with family and friends. She made lifelong friends with her bridge club friends, and with one group made an annual weekend bridge trip "to the lake" for over 25 years, even putting together a booklet of favorite bridge club recipes. She learned to play golf with Lois Ann in her thirties and enjoyed playing with family, friends and in a women's league at Golden Valley Country Club. She made many counted cross stitch projects for family and friends, loved to cook, and was an outstanding pie maker. To help with fundraising for the Auxiliary at Mt Olivet she donated pies and they were always snapped up quickly. Donna had many deep friendships that she developed through volunteer work, church, bridge clubs and in the neighborhoods where she lived. She lived a full life of family, faith and friendship, brightening the lives of those around her with her beautiful smile. A visitation will be held at the Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel at 5000 West 50th Street on September 24, from 4 to 6 pm. A private funeral will be held at Mt Olivet Lutheran Church with interment at Ft Snelling. Memorials may be made to Mt Olivet Lutheran Church or the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
