Donna Mae Margit (Johnson) Hoiland On Monday, March 6, 2023, Donna passed away at her home in Eden Prairie, MN, at the age of 90. Donna was born November 6, 1932, and grew up in Minneapolis, MN, with her adoring parents, Newton Elmer Wordenan Johnson and Sigrid (Helen) Marie (Mathiesen) Johnson, and her adorable older sisters, Marian Joyce Flakne and Lu Jean (Jean) Beverly Wanous. She graduated from Washburn High School, Class of 1951, received her undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Minnesota and her master's degree in Special Education from Mankato State University. At age 16, she started dating her high school sweetheart, Andrew John Hoiland II, at age 21 they married, and spent the next 52 years together living mostly in Bloomington, MN, until John passed away in 2006. Donna was the most loving Mom to Sonia, Lisa (Randy), Andy (Cindy), and Doug, Grandma to Heather, Taylor (Pat), Kiersten, Ash, and Alex, and Great Grandma (Gee Gee) to Elijah, Cordelia, and Eloise. She worked as a Special Education Teacher at Vista View Elementary and Neil Elementary, both located in Burnsville, MN. Donna started Hoiland Publications, Inc. where she created, manufactured, and marketed educational games for children, with a focus on phonics. During her child rearing years, John and she packed up the kids and traveled by motor home to visit John's sisters, first to Portland, OR and then to Long Island, NY, stopping at every antique store, monument, and scenic view along the way. They also traveled with family often to the Brainerd Lakes area, where we created many great memories at Breezy Point Resort and the Bar Harbor Supper Club. John and Donna later ventured numerous times to Mexico and Hawaii with her sisters and their spouses/partners, and to several destinations abroad, with their favorite places being Norway and Greece. After John's passing, her son introduced her to Roger Acton, who also loved to travel, so they were the perfect pair for just shy of 16 years, visiting every European country together, with their favorite place being Switzerland. She was outgoing and loved to entertain friends at her home - the perfect party planner in MN and AZ. She was an avid bridge player with her Decathlon Club group. She enjoyed breakfast and lunch gatherings with all her teacher friends. She was a painter, a knitter, a sewer, and a book reader. She was optimistic and always had a beautiful smile. She so very much loved her family, nephews, nieces, and friends. Donna had a beautiful life! Que Sera Sera - We will love you forever and a day! Xxoo God bless you! Memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 11:00am to 3:00pm, at Brianno's Chart House - 11287 Klamath Trail, Lakeville, MN. The memorial service is expected to be from 11:15am - 12:00pm, with buffet lunch immediately following.
