Donald McLellan

McLellan, Donald N. age 82, of Champlin. On January 14, 2010, Don McLellan began Day One of eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He fell asleep in Champlin, MN and woke up in Heaven! Don lived a full 82 years. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, January 17 in the chapel of Association of Free Lutheran Bible School on Medicine Lake, 3134 East Medicine Lake Boulevard, Plymouth, MN. Visitation at 1:00 PM with memorial/celebration service at 2:00 PM. Don was born on July 2, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN to John Spurgeon and Hilda McLellan. He is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He married Viola Mae Coffman in 1951 and they homesteaded in Golden Valley, MN where they raised 7 children and 1 dog. In 1992 Don retired from Van-O-Lite, a company he co-owned with Mel Jacobsen until 1982. In 2007, Don and Vi moved to their vacation retirement town home in Champlin, MN. Don's heart was to serve God. He helped start a church in Golden Valley, which is now established in Plymouth, MN - Plymouth Bible Chapel. As one of the pioneers of Plymouth Bible Chapel, he lovingly cared for, prayed for and encouraged everyone - knowing each by name. He was sincerely loved and will be missed by the entire congregation. He has encouraged many through ministries such as Boys Brigade and Story Book Lodge Christian Camp. He has served as an Elder at Plymouth Bible Chapel for over 50 years. His legacy is rich and has blessed many. Don was also a devoted husband and father. Along with the responsibilities of work and ministry, he faithfully provided for and encouraged his family in the heritage of his faith. Vacations were an every year occurrence which provided a wealth of memories for each family member. He also was a lover of humor and quick wit! Is it any wonder he was so beloved? His quick wit, tender care and encouraging smile towards everyone he met attracted people to the Savior he loved. "Well done- thou good and faithful servant." Don is survived by his wife, Viola; and children, Kathy (Mike) Stephenson, Nancy McLellan, David (Pam) McLellan, Annette (Joel) Hanson, Tom (Dee) McLellan, Dan (Amy) McLellan, Steve McLellan; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Marge) McLellan; nephew, Tim (Carol) McLellan; and niece, Sue (Eric) Lindskog.
