DeWayne Marcus Lukkasson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. At the time of his passing he was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Lukkasson of 64 years. Survived by children, DeWayne (Linda), Debbie (Mark), and Dianna (Paul); grandchildren, Brian (Sara), Becky (Travis), Matthew, Michael, Nicholas (Katie), Benjamin, and Jeffery (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Margot, Matilda, Colton, Bryson, Lauren, Landon, Joshua and Charlotte. DeWayne was born on June 15, 1931 in Blaisdell, North Dakota. He was the youngest of eight children. He attended college in Rochester Minnesota and after graduating college he worked full time with Gambles and became the store manager. As the manager he needed a secretary and hired Dorothy, who later became his wife of 64 years. He married Dorothy on July 31, 1955 and had three children, DeWayne, Debbie and Dianna. He continued working with Gambles for the next 35 years. He began as a store manager and rose to Vice President. Next he took a management position for True Value until he retired in 2001. After his retirement from True Value, he decided to drive a school bus for Blake School. His wife Dorothy also worked at Blake and he enjoyed seeing her daily at work. He drove a bus for 10 years and was 80 years old when he retired for good. During his working years he was a salesman which led him to be the kind of person who was easy at making friends wherever he went. He could walk into a room of people he did not know and make a joke or just say something and he had made connections. Quick witted, he made everyone feel at ease no matter the situation. He and Dorothy enjoyed retirement, taking trips up to Duluth and walking around the Mall of America daily. His wife passed away in 2020 from Alzheimer's. Dewayne moved into the Waters of Plymouth after having surgery in April of 2021. At the Waters he quickly made friends and became one of the Ambassadors of the Waters, which meant he helped new residents get acquainted with the facility, and made them feel welcomed. He was a proud Norwegian and let everyone know. He enjoyed music and attending all the musical events at the Waters and he loved to sing! He had recently been battling dementia and was in a memory care unit at the Waters. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024. Visitation starts at 10:00 AM, and the service at 11:00 AM at Dawn Valley Chapel, 9940 Bush Lake Rd., Bloomington. Following the service a luncheon will be held in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota in DeWayne Lukkassons memory.
